1989 Mark VII OldSchool2 I Think I Blew Up The Race Car

After a panic brake at about 35-40 mph, the racecar stalled at a red light. When I restarted it, it bellowed grey smoke and studdered slightly. I took it through the intersection and parked at the curb and shut it down. When I got out I definateley smelled something on fire so I walked away for a few minutes. When I came back, it started right up but then belched BLACK smoke and sputtered. I left the car overnight and the next day, the engine turned three times and then seized. I towed it to my driveway. I now have THREE projects in my driveway. I'll be turning OldSchool3 into my new daily driver. The cool thing with that is that I only need classic insurance on it. Can you say $250.00 per year?

I'm thinking that I might have lost a push rod pin. We won't know for sure until the autopsy. Pistures will accompany ~that~ proceedure also.

Good news! Dereck "Dereck" and Thain "Gadget" stopped by my house and proved to me that I did not blow up my car but indeed did blow a head gasket. It seems that when antifreeze get's sucked into a cylinder, it "feels" like the engine seized and hit something like metal to metal.

WooHoo!

Something else for me to take pictures of!

Thanks to Dereck an Thain. The journey begins.

Wow, a head gasket on a 5.0 is not something you hear of often. I guess in a relative way, that is good news. :)

Kindasortayeah.
Since 1992, I've paid to have head gaskets changed on two Mark VIIs. Now that I'm a Broke-Dude on a Broke-Dude-Budget, I'll be doing this one on my own and in my driveway. (Already got the clearence from Lynette)
