i have a 93 mark8 as some of you might know, and im haveing some stereo problems i have no idea whats wrong with it but here are some of the problems.

1. antenna doesnt go all the way up unless you pull it up.(probably just the motor?)
2.the stereo turns on but you cant hear anything unless you turn the volume all the way up, and even then you can just barely hear music.
3. it makes a weird poping noise if and when you turn it up.

it is the stock stereo head and there was a 6 disc CD changer in the car before i bought it and the original owner took that.

any tips on how to solve this problem?

thanx guys.

1. Replace the antenna
2. Check the plugs on the amp in the trunk, sounds like it might either be unplugged(easy fix) or bad(need to find another one)
3.see above

Again another post that should be in the audio section..but whatever...do you have the JBL system or just the regular?

i have the JBL system.

is there supposed to be a amp in the back, is it under the trunk apholstery?
i never saw an amp in the trunk when i bought the car?

So how do you get the pins that hold the carboard piece on off? i tried just pulling but i didnt want to break anything so i thought i would just ask you guys.

thanks.

The tray is secured by screws that have to be accessed in the interior. You have to peel back the cover behind the back seat to do that.

ok so which one is it? do they pop out or do i need to pull back the interior?

i have a '93. so it might be alittle different than a '95 or so on...

thanx guys.

Well the cover just pops off, the tray that the amp is on is bolted through the rear deck, but all you are doing right now is checking the connections. So I would start with that(both the amp and the headunit connections) then we can look at bad units(amps speakers,etc...)

On the left side of the tray, there's a retaining clip with a round knob on the end. Pull it out. Then pull down firmly to release the 2 metal clips near the center of the tray (1 in front, 1 in back). The tray is hinged on the right, so it'll swing down. The hinge doesn't have to be unbolted unless you want to take the tray completely out of the car.

No offense, but it's all been very clearly explained in this thread. Grab a flashlight, climb in the trunk, and take a look around. If you break a retaining clip or tear the cardboard panel, it's not the end of the world. If you don't feel comfortable messing around with it (which is entirely understandable), take the car to a good stereo shop.

can you tell if it is all here?? or is there is something missing from the brackets in the center??

I found this plug in the glove box, does it have anything to do with the stereo??
Thanks.

Those brackets in the center are for the optional factory cell phone. The cable in the trunk is for the cell phone antenna; I'm pretty sure all cars had it regardless of whether they had the phone.

The blue cable in the middle of the amp has a connector that looks like an overgrown telephone plug. That was a '93-only thing; afterward it was replaced with a typical Ford connector. So if you end up replacing the amp, make sure you get one for a '93.

I don't know what that connector in the glove box is, but I'm almost 100% sure it's not related to the stereo. Aside from the obvious plugs at the head unit, amp, and speakers, AFAIK the only other one is behind the passenger-side kick panel.

ok thanks.

well if i cant figure out what the problem is with this system im mostlikely going to go to a car adio shop and have them hook it up with a sweet system with subs and all.

once again thanks.

gotcha. thanks.

man i never realized how much not having a stereo sucks until yesterday when i got my license and i was driving around with nothing to listen to. haha
