Replacement Headlight assemblies

Gentlemen
I am a newbie to mark viii's. I love the car but hate the poorly performing headlights. I am planing to replace the yellowed assemblies and replace the 2005's with aftermarket HID's. I just got out bid over 250.00 for a good used set on another auction site. Sheesh! How much are these from Lincoln and are they still available? How did you guys solve this problem on your Gen 1's?

The bulbs are no longer available. The HID lenses and ballasts have been getting cheaper on ebay but the bulbs have skyrocketed for over $250 each USED.

IMHO, I would think a better investment would be to get new halogen lenses and then get HIR bulbs. Use a relay setup to get even better performance.

lol you are upset over getting outbid at $250, you are a newbie for sure. you dont even want to know what ford would get for the housings, then you have to find the bulbs, which is getting nearly impossible these days. you are in for a suprise when it comes to buying anything for the car. like said above, just buy a brand new pair of stock halogen housings like what are in it now, and find a standard bulb you like, like the hir's or any incandescent bulb. plan on dropping close to 500 for a new pair of housings.

Thanks Guys. I guess I should have bid more, if housings are 250 a piece.
Please pardon my newbieism. LOL

Go back and read the last response. the HID bulbs are NO LONGER AVAILABLE!

Buy the stock replacement head light assemblies or put some additional lights in the grill like many have.

Those kits are a dime a dozen unfortunately. Many times the ballasts and bulbs are really sub-par stuff made in China. The OEM Ford housings are very expensive and difficult to find for a gen 1. The bulbs are even more expensive and rare. The housings are very different from the halogen housings. They have clear lenses and the reflector is designed to put the light in the correct place and not scatter it into the eyes of oncoming drivers. The halogen housings will work with rebased hids but it's not really designed for it.

What you say is true...BUT!
I cannot deny the results that I got from the kit from the New Jersey Seller I bought it from. I can see the road and beams now, even in the rain, with my stock lenses. :wave022:
Now the lenses you're all talking about, the performance must be amazing! :eek-large:

Amazing is right. ;)

HIR bulbs are quite good. After you get new housings and drop $55 for a pair of HIR bulbs, you'll be glad you saved yourself the money and the hassle.

On a relative brightness scale, if stock bulbs are a 1 and HIDs are a 10, then HIR bulbs are in the 6-7 range. For the price (and availability), they can't be beat.
