The rectifiers are what I have seen as more problematic than the regulators in the Mark VIII alternators. Regardless, heat is most generally the blame for component failure. There was a time you could find automotive electrical shops that would give you a quality rebuild on any alternator or...

Ha - yeah that is a pain. I needed to do that anytime I sourced a 'Cobra' alternator. What an eclectic LOD group for the Homecoming... a manual Coyote swap Mark VIII, a survivor convertible Mark VIII and the Bonneville Mark VIII. :reallod:

I had that happen once. It ended up being the voltage regulator and replacing the alternator fixed it. There were no ill consequences.

I've always thought the shift points were too early on my Mark VIIIs, especially so at low throttle. I've not heard of a specific TPS issue causing this but I suppose it could. I've done extensive shift point calibrations when tuning my modified '96 and I know there are several factors that...
