2nd place to a big block...

Okay, here goes. Friday morning on my way to work I happen to catch the light lined up next to a big yellow GMC with what sounded like a big-block under the hood. From the sounds of the exhaust and the way the driver was winding the gears I figured it was geared pretty low also. The passengers we pretty wild and egging me on. When the light turned green I only gave it about half throttle because of fear of wheel spin. I grabed a quick half a car length lead as I wound out first gear to around 12 to 15 mph. At the rate the needle was climbing I couldn’t be sure. I short shifted to second as the big GMC pulled even. I wasn’t going to make that mistake again and put it back in drive and let it shift for itself. As I wound out second to nearly 22 mph I could see the 85-year old school crossing guard up ahead getting ready to throw out the hand-held red stop sign. Knowing it would be over in a matter of seconds, I backed off the throttle to save my gas for the next time as the little old lady held the stop sign in my face and let the 44-passenger school bus ahead of me to drop off here full load of screaming kids.

I wish I had been there. I'm sure it was all a blur at those speeds.

I was hoping we would refrain from all the street racing stories on the new board.:p

Art, the posted speed limit in that area was 25 mph and I was just hoping to get there before the other guy, but you snooze...you lose :(.

Bill, I am disappointed in you. At those speeds you could have nearly fallen asleep and ran those kids over. Not only that, you could have spilled your coffee. Oh wait, that's right, us first gen. guys cant fit a cup of coffee in our cup holder.
