Okay, here goes. Friday morning on my way to work I happen to catch the light lined up next to a big yellow GMC with what sounded like a big-block under the hood. From the sounds of the exhaust and the way the driver was winding the gears I figured it was geared pretty low also. The passengers we pretty wild and egging me on. When the light turned green I only gave it about half throttle because of fear of wheel spin. I grabed a quick half a car length lead as I wound out first gear to around 12 to 15 mph. At the rate the needle was climbing I couldn’t be sure. I short shifted to second as the big GMC pulled even. I wasn’t going to make that mistake again and put it back in drive and let it shift for itself. As I wound out second to nearly 22 mph I could see the 85-year old school crossing guard up ahead getting ready to throw out the hand-held red stop sign. Knowing it would be over in a matter of seconds, I backed off the throttle to save my gas for the next time as the little old lady held the stop sign in my face and let the 44-passenger school bus ahead of me to drop off here full load of screaming kids.
