2nd time autocross

Took the Lincoln out autocrossing yesterday for the 2nd time. The course was set up very similar to the one I posted about a month ago. The course is set up by a local Corvette club and they like to set it up so there are some fast sections. This course is more of a hybrid of a road course and autocross. I probably could have hit 70 mph if I was willing to push it. I tended not to go over 5000 rpms with my fuel problems. Still had a great time.

I would recommend everybody to go out and try some sort of road race/autox at least once.

looks like fun! It looks like your car had a lot more in it, I'm sure you could shave some serious time off in future runs!

I always wanted to autocross my Mazda, and once I get a Mark, it will be no different. Eric, a friend of mine who works at the Marshfield airport autocrosses out that way rather often. I don't know when the season wraps up, but we oughtta head out there at least once. :)

I would love to try it. There's a nice road course up near Pittsburgh I've been meaning to check out. I have a couple local friends recommend it to me. Easy to hit triple digits there once they turn you loose on your own after some introductory lessons.

I never hit WOT knowing that my air/fuel ratio goes to about 15:1 above 5000 rpms. That is not what you want with with a supercharger.

Found a cool picture that somebody took

Of course I had to take number 8. They wouldn't let me put it in roman numerals though. Next year, I'll have magnetic numbers instead of painters tape.

Damn. Lookin' good, Chris!! what a great photo, too. That's got calendar potential! Do you know of there are any more of these events coming up this year? I'm still not sure I'm brave enough to run one, but I'd love to come to show support.

Bookmarked: Thanks!

Good luck with your repairs. I still have upper and lower control arms that I've been putting off. and an e-brake cable..

Maybe we're due for a midwest wrenchin' party..

ooh! ooh! when and where.

you and I will get along great.

I still have yet to make a batch at my new house. Partly because I've got a friend in Egan who is doing all-grain brewing in his garage. I've helped him the last few rounds, and the results have been amazing. He's a lot better funded than I am. I've just been getting the extract kits from either Northern Brewer or Midwest Supplies.

I've never done a Belgian, but that one looks particularly good. The Scottish 80+ is a great one. I highly recommend it. I think I've done their regular nut-brown also. also a winner.

Ok, I really haven't had a bad batch yet.. I thought that the Czech Pilsner had been a failure, but as it turned out, I just didn't let it sit in the bottles long enough. After 3 months, it was amazing.

a buddy of mine did that once. he set up a dirt track at his parents farm, and did a drunk driving challenge. he'd line up shots on the roof of each car, then every participant would have to drink them, and do a lap.

That is effing epic. Where's Joe?! :D

That looks like fun....couldn't you do some manual shifting or does your fuel issue hinder that idea. Why were you racing with a fuel issue anyways?! :D

I was racing at the same time you were....in the yellow S2K! :)

I just don't trust the stock tranny to be shifting it manually, so I just leave it in 2nd. The thing pulls very hard out of slow corners even in 2nd gear. Supercharger helps with that.

I only go lean when above 5000 rpms. I was barely above 5000 rpms that day, and not at WOT. Since I don't have to worry about preignition or detonation, I didn't think it was much of a risk. Plus I live only about 3 miles from that track, so not too far to borrow a trailer from a fellow racer if I needed.

Coming from working at a transmission shop, I can tell you that the loads you put on second gear at those slow speeds (sounded very boggy on the video) was probably putting more strain on the transmission instead of shifting it manually. Some of those turns, the transmission would have natually downshifted to first anyways.

Just my two cents....Plus it would have been so much more exciting to just open it up and run it through the gears! :)
