Hi everyone! Just settling in with my Lincoln; Have wanted one for a long time, of course couldn't afford it when new, but can, now. Back in the 90's I was married, my brother in law was a mechanic at a local L/M dealer. We would talk about working on cars (I'm not a professional mechanic like him, but have worked on every car I ever had), people who own them and how they behave with the cars they buy. I thought every Lincoln was an old, plodding land barge built for living room like couch comfort. Not so, he said. The mark 8 is a sports car, but lincoln doesn't market it that way, which is why it doesn't sell like it should. He told me about the Bonneville mark 8 and it's accomplishments, the 181 MPH run. How it had good front and rear sway bars, hi tech that automatically lowered the car when it could, and a real hot rod for an engine, like the old 351 Cleveland. I was shocked, and didn't believe him, until I started to look it all up. And of course he was right on target. And so I would wait until the day I would own one, too. The mark 8 is a throwback to the days when expensive cars were also the fastest cars, the days of Duesenberts, 12 cylinder Lincolns, 16 cylinder Cadillacs, Packards, Cords. But Ford killed it by marketing it as a personal luxury car. Yet, they were expensive. So most were initially sold to people with garages, and the money to maintain them. So there are some nice specimens out there. I think I found one. it's a 98 Ivory inside and out LSC. 110K miles, one owner (after the dealer of course!). Now I'm on my course to rehab it bit by bit. It doesn't need everything, but a little TLC and some upgrades to make it the real road car that I know it can be. Im not a drag racer; one of my current cars is a 928. So I know what a good handling car is. And the Mark definitely is one. And it's mine!

To go along with my mark, I will need a four door car to get my elderly mom and her cousins around once in a while. As I have bad knees, I like something tall, like my previous Bronco, easy to get in and out of and pick packages out of. So I also tracked down a 98 Lincoln navigator. Also in decent shape. And I will move the whole package to Florida as I ease into retirement.

So that's me. I'll be buying a nice three bedroom ranch house somewhere in Florida, with a nice two bay garage for my mark and 928 to live in and to work on.

My name is Don. And I'm a car addict.
