99 TC seat track replacement.

Keep a watch on eBay for factory Service Manuals and the EVTM (Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual) for the 1999 Town Car. The hard copies of the Service Manuals are very convenient to have and typically are inexpensive.

I went to get some stock wheels from a guy who has several TCs he is stripping out and found an old, ripped seat. He told me it worked fine so I gave him $50 for it, stripped the seat track out and had it installed in my car. It had the same problem as mine just not as bad. I disassembled my old track, drilled out the rivets on the plastic gearbox. All i have ever read is the nylon {plastic} gears go bad, on mine it was a 3inch long steel worm gear, the nylon gears were fine. So right now a local machine shop has the worm gear and they are going to see about replicating it. If anyone has a good one laying around I will readily purchase it. Cross your fingers. I have some pics of it but can't post them.

I'd agree with Driller on this one. I think it's unlikely for the seat mechs to be different, but I have some minor experience here which may prove useful.

I just dug through my own archive. I have a few photos of the driver's seat from my old 1999 Signature Series Touring Sedan. Mine did not have heated seats, and I don't remember it having memory. Perhaps these are useful for comparison. I took these when I added some aftermarket heated seats to it.

I do have a few more detailing the disassembly and removal of the seat cover itself. Feel free to let me know if that's useful, and I'll post those too.

The seat in that car did eventually fail in the same manner as yours. It's not possible to disable the Driver's "Auto Glide" feature, so it wore out in time. My solution was to move the seat to the fore/aft position that worked for me, and I cut the power wire for that specific motor. If your car ever has additional drivers, this is probably not the solution for you. :)

Did it have power recline, from what I gather the power recline usually goes with memory seats. I'm considering adding a small switch next to the lumbar switch to cut power to the up/back motor until needed.

It did. I had to dig through some old photos to confirm my memory, but it had the door-mounted seat controls just above the arm rest, and they definitely have a recline button. (visible on the passenger door)

You have me reminiscing now. You'd be hard pressed to find a better road trip car. It was so much quieter than my old '86, and would just cruise for days.
Good in the snow, too.
