About to get new head unit any last minute hints?

I'm really leaning towards the Sony CDX-M800

But i was also thinking about the Pioneer DEHP7400.

(7500 shown but looks almoust identical)

Which has mp3 playback (i dont' really care for that). In my opinion the sony looks better and would fit the car better because its black and not silver. So i think i'm going to go for that. What do you guys think? Both are the same price.

the pioneer is a much better quality unit and easier to work with. If you want to see what Pioneer looks like in the car, search around in this forum for IceMan's post, "Pics of H/U instalation" or something like that, there are some good pics there. Go with the pioneer.

MP3 playback is the best feature EVER. It's like having a 10 disk in-dash changer with cartridges that cost $1, and if your CD's get stolen out of your car, you're out $10 in CDR's.

I've owned Pioneer and i've owned Sony. I though the Sony held up better, but only because of hte rubber buttons on the Pioneer, which i think they've changed. It's also been 7 years since i've owned a Sony, and about 3 since i've had a Pioneer.

go with alpine. sony isnt exactly known for quality when it comes to their line of mobile electronics. the pioneer is a pretty good unit and u wont regret the mp3 capabilities as dave's already pointed out. i say go with alpine because of the ease of use and their quality is top notch. i love mine.

I have the Pioneer Premier 940MP(the 9400 is almost identical with only a couple of very minor differences) and absolutely love it. Joe also has a similar Sony unit and really likes the way the display looks flipped to the flat black side. I agree the units like that look really clean and have a pretty decent sound. However, in my opinion it's all about how you have it mounted. Check this link out:

Also, Panasonic has a new unit with ghost buttons that would look really good in our cars...looks alot like the Sony but with a touchpad on the face for buttons.

Like I said I'm partial to the unit I have for multiple reasons...too many to list here. If you're interested inbox me and I'll drop you my cell number...I can tell you all about it. Christo liked the pics so much I hooked him up with the guy I got mine from and he bought one. Let me know cause I can get that for almost half of retail.

thanks for the great tips :). Your pioneer looks good. I went with the sony though. I really liked that flip look. I dunno though i might still return it i have it installed i just dunno if i like it over the stock unit that much more. Might post pics later.
