I totally forgot I did this when I went to the wrecking yard last year. I was pulling parts off a 1993 with VERY bad rear window moulding (lasagna).
I took a carpet knife and went to town. Basically you just slice the "flap" that is wrinkled off and it looks 10 times better. Afterwards you'll have to clean out the water channel and maybe buff off the paint where the flap has been sitting for years.
