Exhaust Note

I have a 96 LSC with the typical LSC dual setup. I would like to duplicate the sound [exhaust note ] of the 4.6 Mustangs and/ or Cobras. Tight, a little snarly but not really loud. Is this a matter of simply using Mustang resonators or is it more complicated. [I am not familiar with the mustang set up]. What I really want to avoid is loud droning exhaust at freeway speeds

I'm not sure what kind of setup you would need, but just because the MK8 is longer, even if you identically copied a cobra setup, the car would sound different. The longer the exhaust the quieter...

Try as you may, you're not going to have the exhaust note of a Mustang in a Lincoln. Personally I prefer the sound of a MagnaFlow muffler system on our cars. Even at that, with the LSC exhaust with the cats intact, it is still quite mellow in comparison. Many have used the dual-in/dual-out muffler/resonator with straight tips in the rear (sans rear mufflers) for a more "snarly" exhaust note.

I ran straight pipes on my red 98 (with stock cats) and because the car is longer, at idle the car was still pretty quiet with a nice low pitch burble. Of course at WOT it was um... loud... :D

FYI, limos don't have any muffs... because of their length the exhaust is silent by the time it reaches the end of the pipe.

LOL... I never thought about that but assume you would know. :D

We used to run HD diesel equipment on drill rig locations through buried exhaust pipes that exited in water towers in urban environments. The first revelation was how much quieter the worksite was.

The second revelation was the constant steam cloud - almost like a power plant cooling tower. :cool:

Sounds like a reasonable solution [no pun]. Is the dual-in/dual-out a Magnaflow product 2.5" x 2.5"?

It was, but with the resonating tips.
 
I have a ? I bought my car & the third cat was removed & the other cats were gutted I am looking into a dual in/out thrush welded muffler where the resonator & 3rd cat were & run duals with 3 1/2 in slash cut tips would this make my car overly loud? they dont really do emission testing where I live so would this set up give me a nice sound?
 
I have a mid-mount dual in/dual out Flowmaster 50 Series muffler where the 3rd cat/resonator used to be. It's a little too quiet for me, I'm thinking of swapping it out for a dual in/dual out Flowmaster Super 40 Series. I'll do it only if it'll sound a bit louder and more aggressive.

Would that work?
