Fan motor like sound???

My 98 MarkVIII has been giving off a sound that sounds like a fan in operation. This noise appears to come from the passenger side of the car from under the hood. It happens periodically - most noticeablly when the care is on and in a stopped position. The climate control can be off or on - it doesn't seem to have any bearing on the the situation. Whats really wierd is just the other day after i washed the car, i was talking to my neighbor and we both heard this fan-like sound from under the passenger side of the hood. Please keep in mind that the car was was shut off for almost an hour. This sound lasted for about 15 to 20 seconds. I opened the hood but by this time it stopped. Is my car haunted? Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

Nothing to worry about. It's the air suspension pump. It runs ocassionally for an hour or so after you turn off the car to raise the suspension.

If it is really loud - then you might need a new pump - or if you have a leak in a bag - it might be running too much.

But likely - its just the pump doing what it was designed to do.
