Front end rebuild and coil swap

On my way home Friday in the 97 my compressor went out. I could tell cause both ends were sagging and the rears started rubbing the fenders about a mile from home, So I tore up my fenders and my tires a little bit, but not too bad. Good news is that when I got home there my coil conversion was sitting on the front porch. Talk about some great timing!

So I started removing everything from the front drivers side first. What a freakin pain in the arse. The only easy parts was the stuff that was supposed to be hard. The lower bolt on the lower control arm was a snap, came right off. The hardest parts were removing the steering knuckle from the UCA and getting the spindle of the LCA off of the back of the hub or what ever its called it connects to. Took a lot of pounding with the BFH.

It was 101* when I started at 5:00, and after running 7 miles that morning and then working all day with no lunch, coming home and starting on the beer and doing the car for 3 hours, I was exhausted.

The next day went a lot smoother. I finished up the drivers side and did the pass side too. It would have gone alot faster but I was watching my kids (2&4) and trying to do this at the same time. Plus it was 104* and I took quite a few smoke breaks, and took a nap when the kids did I ended up taking off the MC to get to the rear uca bolt on the drivers side and for the pass side I broke off the little arms that keep one side from moving and used a ratchet on that side and held the other side with a wrench.

Today I finished up by doing the rears. The only problem I had there was getting the shock mounts off the shocks because the hole thing was spinning. Then I realized if I put it in my bench vise i could get it off. Other than that it was pretty simple.

Car rides like a dream, just need to get an alignment and I'll be done. Thanks to everyone who has posted how to's on here and answered questions I had in the past. Luckily I only had to use one of my "life lines" (phone a friend). Thanks buddy!

Good job Marine!!! Loose those smokes!!!! LOL Yeah, I know... if you don't smoke (Or drink coffee), you do all the work... it didn't take me long to learn that as a sailor!!!

+1...I ran cross country in college, but never smoked while doing it. You've got some tough lungs.
