Fuel efficiency?

What kind of fuel mileage are you guys getting in your mark viiis?...my info center has my average mpg at around 14. It's said that for the longest time.

Does this seem low for a stock mark viii.

It's a 94, and I do mostly city driving.

Calculate it the old fashioned way when you fuel up before you put much faith in the message center number.

14 doesn't seem out of line if you're doing exclusively city driving. Particularly if the weather is cold, and/or you drive like the rest of us do.. :)

I've used an app called "Fuelio" in the past to more accurately track economy. Just plug in the data each time you fill up, and it does the math for you. I think Lvnmarks turned me on to that one..

Edit: I just had another thought. I don't know how many miles are on your car, but on my old '97 at about 200k, I was griping about poor fuel economy to Mad1stgen once. He proceeded to dig around in a bin, and tossed me a "lightly used" fuel pump. "You don't know it, but I bet you need this."

He was right. I gained a few mpg, and knocked a full second off my 1/4 mile time.. Stock car, stock pump... Not a sure thing in your case, but worth considering.

The stock 308 differential (used on all 93-94's) lets you get better mileage than the later LSC 327 differential. I don't bother with measuring anything but expressway driving as I often do a lot of hard driving from stop signs and red lights. Since the amount of stops vary depending on where I (or anyone) drives, I always reset and check my cars mileage on the expressway, on long trips. My 308's get up to 28 mpg, my 327's get up to 25 with 10% ethanol premium depending on driving conditions and especially the wind. Back when I could get pure gas, I often got 29-30 mpg with my green 94 with perfect weather and no air conditioning running.

'98, cross country from NJ to AZ, usually run 75 in the east where the limits are 65 or 70, then 80 to 85 when the limits raise to 75 (I make the trip at least twice a year). Highway last trip stayed around 22-23 mpg. I don't drive it around town much, I have other cars for that.
Changed to springs instead of air bags for suspension, so I don't get the 2cm lowering effect to help mileage. But the ride is fine anyway.
