Anyone ever put glasspacks or bullet mufflers on their mark VIII? If so, did it sound like a muscle car?

Thanks,
scott

I don't think you will get it to sound like a muscle car whatever you do. These 4V motors seem to have a sound thats unique to only them. I am however considering running bullet mufflers if it isn't quiet enough with a 2 in 2 out crossflow and 2 mufflers out back.

Why would I go through all the trouble? To keep 'er quiet for that "Sleeper" effect...wanna keep it as close to stock sounding as possible. I have the feeling that I won't have to add a pair of bullet's, but if I do, oh well.

There is a local guy (www.superstang.com) that has 6 mufflers in his car. Riding in the thing, you'd never guess it was a 9 second car until he opens it up. Thats where I got the idea of adding an extra set of mufflers from. I guess the loss in power wasn't even noticeable.

WHY to the original poster ... not you boss.

The only sure way to get he muscle sound is to duplicate the mustang exhaust. That would require placing mufflers closer to the engine, which is almost impossible on the mark.

You want it to sound like a real car... just cut the mufflers off and weld pipe in there place...

My 98 has no nufflers, and it sounds excellent... better then any modern mustang.

I am in the camp that thinks it would be a cool experiment. I think glasspacks would add some mellow bass, and then regular mufflers on top would tighten up the sound. Just my opinion. If I had the time, money and talent I would do it. My thoughts would be: true dual back to an x,then two individual glasspacks then back through two mufflers at the back. Craziness, I know.

It would be so quite, you might as well leave it stock.

With no mufflers at all the car is long enough that at low idle, you still have to be standing at the back of the car just to hear it's running. Nice quite burble... now when you hit the gas it's a diferent story... :D
