Head swap? 2005 Aviator to 1998 Mark LSC

Could I take out the intake manifold from the 2005 lincoln Aviator 4.6L DOHC and put it on my stock 98 LSC? Should I?

Pretty sure the heads are different, The '98 will have "B" heads for sure and I believe the 2005 Aviator would have "C" heads. So to use the intake, you would need adapters or use the Aviator heads. Either way, the Aviator intake would likely not fit under the stock hood of the Mark VIII.

Most Ford DOHC enthusiasts will say the C heads are superior in flow and potential power, certainly if at least comparing stock applications. Whether or not you should really comes down to if it's for necessity or convenience and your level of determination.

You may or may not be aware that the preferred Mark VIII intake swap is the DOHC intake from the '96-'98 Mustang Cobra. ;)

I am aware of this, but it is very hard to find a 'B' cobra intake manifold where I am (British Columbia, Canada) and there is a recent aviator in the junkyard here that I wasnt really sure about.

Honestly, I think converrting the heads is too big a task for me.

The intake for an Aviator is built for a truck and and well suited for HP applications, that being said it will not fit on B heads. If you swapped the Aviator motor into the Mark VIII, you would need a cobra/Mach 1 intake in order to close the hood.

I have an Aviator(ish) motor going into my 97 eventually and will be running the Eaton setup from an 03 Cobra.

Okay im extremely tempted to use the 2005 aviator had and air intake.. how many hours does the job take to do this?

Way to many hours for miniscule gains.
Well, looking at it from the future, the only reason I think it'd be worth the time and monney would be if I intended to turn the car into a high performance vehicle, having C heads would allow a lot more workability, but as it right now, I think the most I will do as far as the intake goes is try and find the 96-98 Cobra intake manifold and install that instead. Finding one has proven to be very dificult however. I live in BC Canada, no sure if there are any guys frequenting here that might have such a part, but my email is kmperreault1@gmail.com if there's anyone willing to sell me one.

Sadly, I agree. Would make more sense just swapping out the entire motor I think, so screw it, I like my 98 B heads. Wouldn't mind disecting a 4.6L 4v otherwise :)

heh. I clicked this thread to say "hey. after all these folks said not to bother, and you're still thinking about it, you should totally do it." After all, someone has to be the first at everything.

Alternatively, the Cobra intake is proven, known, well documented, fits nicely, and looks great.

you'll get no judgment from me either way. I'm happy to support anyone who is enthusiastic about these cars.

Please keep us posted, whatever you decide. it's been a while since we've had a really deep build thread. I'd love to see a fresh one.

Bought a 96-98 Cobra B head intake manifold, TB, IMRC delete plates, throttle cable, gaskets and odds and ends to swap the intake on my stock 1998 LSC. Can I get a bit of advice/direction to prepare for when it gets here?

I bed they're cheap enough to pick up to be worth trying though.. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong.. I thought the OEM fuel rails will technically fit with the Cobra intake, but it's a tight fit, and/or it puts things like the Schrader valve out of reach? I feel like folks have done it, but it's not preferred..

Well, Im accumulating parts from the yard so i have enough options to problem solve on the fly during the swap, and I'm grabbing the aviator intake, heads and cams. already have the hosing, break booster vacuum lines and fuel rails, as well as the throttle cable and i took this other cable off a box i thought was cruise control but am now thinking its control for the dual runners on the intake. hoping the cobra 96-98 upper intake will be able to bolt onto it haha.. if it looks cool ill cut the hood to make room

I have removed and accquired from the 2005 Lincoln Aviator the Heads/cams gears, intake manifold, tubing and plumbing, the necessary sensors for the dual runners on the intake

Looks like "about 2 beer cans high" to me.. :D
I think you're right on the money here. I'm putting off any serious repairs till next spring/summer, and when I can do it in a shop. That said, I have some time to decide and the parts are in storage for now. Putting in those 05 Lincoln C-heads would obviously be a big upgrade, but I see some serious issues in my future if I used the Aviator 05 intake manifold (which admittedly is pretty rad with its 8 long runners and IMRC are at the top this time, controlled by two separate arms) .

Because the 05 lincoln intake manifold has long ass runners and an overall larger intake, the exuast manifolds and porting are also significantly bigger and more than likely will not fit inside the Mark VIII. I could easily bolt on the 01 cobra log manifolds but I would need to probably gasket match and shave back close to a milimeter all the way around, but that would just be so it flows properly and not taking into account that the 05 Lincoln exhaust manifolds are ported much wider than the cobras shorty manifold. It seems like it might create some unanticipated backpressure and start wearing seals. That's just hypothetical.. Another option I'm considering is just adapting the cobra 96-98 intake manifold right into the C-heads. Any opinions?
