How much power can I expect...

for the following exhaust mods on a stock Mark:

1. Mufflers only
2. Cat back exhaust
3. Entire exhaust system

Ballpark numbers will be fine.

Thanks.

RE: How much power can I expect...

Well, this is real ballpark. I had my car dyno'd in Houston at about 218 HP IIRC. 2 years later, got the cat back system, and with my mufflers open I dyno in Chicago area at 229.8 HP. With mufflers closed it was 222 or something like that. I expected more of a gain, but then again, this was 2 years later, and the Houston dyno I had fresh plugs, boots, yada yada. I really wish now I would have gotten a better baseline up here right before the mod.

And I don't remember my baseline torque.

Without headers 10 hp is about all you can really expect.

RE: How much power can I expect...

i made 210 stock and 239 with exhaust and mass air with my black car. my green car made about 208 stock and made 280 or so with long tubes, mass air, and tune.

Oh wait, I forgot what HP equals in tenths at the drag strip, but I DEFINITELY cut a minimum of 2 tenths off my times, and I really think it's more like 3. Hard to say exactly because I didn't run as much this past year, but I went from low 15's to consistent 14.8's. But again, conditions were not equal, so this is just a ballpark figure.

RE: How much power can I expect...

Was it on the same dyno each time? Thats the biggest mistake a lot of people make is making pulls on one dyno, and then going somewhere else to make pulls. Even if they are the same type of dyno but at a different location you could end up with different results if they aren't maintained to the same level.

With that said, talking to one of my friends, his dyno numbers showed about 10 lbft but no hp over mine with a dynomax exhaust for a t-bird that he lengthened to fit a Mark VIII where I have stock exhaust yet. The only other difference between them is his is a first gen, and mine is a second gen, but we run identical times at the track. Fortunately, my car was just a little bit faster that day though.

Me? No, they were different dyno's so I know the numbers won't match.

RE: How much power can I expect...

your mph = hp

mine was 93 then with full exhaust it went to 97 mph

RE: How much power can I expect...

If you are looking for horsepower out of an exhaust system, don't even waste your time with a catback system. I would say 10HP is a high number for the amount you will gain at the rear wheels. I gained a total of 4HP on the dyno from exhaust mods and 8HP by simply changing the plugs.

If your preference is sound, then a good set of mufflers would be a great investment.

I wish I would have done headers from the start, that's where you'll start seeing real power gains.
