The brahma is intense!!! I've thrown every bass line at it and it eats it up. Strong and loud. I never expected anything like this thing. It's amazing. The focals have now come alive and the complement is perfection in my eyes.

The focals still can't handle mid-range though which is a problem that I don't see in two many songs. It'll be a while before I put anything else in though. It's an absolutely fantastic arrangement of audio gere.

One question I have. I still havent placed the sub in it's 'home'. I'm wondering if I turned the sub toward the back seats if it would cause rattling etc. Has anyone ever done this with their mark?

<Does a little dance> WOOOOOOOOOOOOOt

RE: I'd just like to say.

I achieved the most optimal bass response placing my 3 10" MTX 7000s facing front, right behind the back seat. Move it around, listen, move it some more, listen again. Play with phases, see what you like the best.

RE: I'd just like to say.

12". The SQ is awesome. I put a track in with all bass and the sub ate it up. I swear it'll take anything you throw at it. I'm suprized with it's abilities. It's clean sound and constant. It doesn't loose volume and doesn't distort.

Put it this way, and I havent experienced many subs so this as novice info. (if you have subs I'd like to hear what your experience in this particular matter is) If I put in a bass cd with all sub tracks it will rattle my body, the rearview mirror and the side mirrors. None of the change in the drink cup rattles. If I put a cup full of change on the backseat it will rattle only on the low low notes but at not of the other times. (after thinking about this I might be wrong and would have to test it but it sounds like a decent 'test')

Does anyone have any test tracks they want to share with lots of bass. I'll burn it and listen and give you feedback on any particular notes. The reason I say this Is I want to hear what a couple of you guy's sound system's are hitting like. I figure with test track we can compare and contrast. (make sure its 320 btrate)

The sound of the box sounds very much like a sealed enclosure from what I've been told. I havent heard any ported subs at all so I don't know the difference personally.

Did you make a custom box to fit those subs in? IF not did you put any screws into the base of the trunk to keep the boxes from moving down?

RE: I'd just like to say.

I made a custom box, it's 39 x 14 x 15, so it sits there very tight. However, it's still mounted to the floor, since the whole thing weights close to 90 lbs. and might move under heavy breaking. Those subs might not be very high on the SQ side, but I love how they sound.

RE: I'd just like to say.

DO not screw down the boxes to the floors! Our cars flex a lot, and it may shred the floor.

My favorite Bass tracks come from Bass Mekaniks Sonic Overload. Buy it don't download it, for the best bass. The second CD has a ton of test tones to find your car's resonant frequenc, or to just show off.

More often than not, turning a sub to the rear will yeild better bass, because it can use the whole trunk as a form of enclosure. Facing the front generallly gives more SQ.

Glad you like the brahma, I knew you would ;-). I've been seriously considering getting the RE XXX which uses the same motor structure as th brahma, but has better SQ, and no tinsel lead slap. Check out this shot of a 10"...

One of the best SQ high powered subs out there. Only the IDMAX is keeping me from getting the XXX. I still haven't figured out whch one I like best.

RE: I'd just like to say.

I can vouch for what DJ said. I have a bazooka bass tube with a Rockford Fosgate woofer (don't laugh) it really pumps. But, when I had it facing the seats I couldn't even hear it. Once I turned it around with its a$$ facing the seats it rocked.

RE: I'd just like to say.

It all depends on how much room you have between the speakers and the seat. Also if they are in-phase or out-of-phase is really important. I just stated my experience with mtx subs. Altough they aren't the greatest, 3 of them (12ohm subs) gave me a perfect ohm load for my amp. Bass is where I want, right up front. Yes, I had more boomy bass when it was facing the rear of the car, but it was slow, and would not catch up to fast techno beats. Like I said, move it around, see what you like best. Placement is very important.

>>>Facing the front generallly gives more SQ

Couldn't agree more ... !!!!!

RE: I'd just like to say.

Can you tell me more about this in/out phase. My new radio has the option to reverse the phase and I really didn't notice a difference.

Thanks

edit: what is SQ?

RE: I'd just like to say.

SQ = sound quality

dj, u keep talking about loud subs with incredible sound quality and not once have u mentioned the W7. i know u have this thing against it but those subs are in a league of their own. i havent heard the XXX or the brahma yet but i have heard a couple W7's (ported and sealed) and a few IDMAX's. i have to say that the W7 is hands down the champ and the max could be considered the poor mans W7. sure the max has great SQ and is a pretty efficient sub but its hard to compare to the JL. in both applications i heard the W7 in, i have to say the SQ was incredible, even in the much larger ported box. we tested the subs with a couple types of music (dnb, metal, hip hop) and it shined for all of them. very tight and controlled bass and so so loud as well. in this bimmer i heard, the guy had 2 13W7's sealed with a jl 1000/1 to each sub and it blew the speakers out of the rear deck. they werent screwed in and went flying onto the back seat. we had a bass mekanik cd playing and it was incredible. it was even playing the lower midbass with no problems. i would love to pick up one or 2 W7's but ive had my eyes on a trio of eDesign e12a's or e10a's. its all just wishful thinking though since im dead broke.

One of the problems with subs in the rear is that it sounds like it's coming from the rear (go figure) which ruins a soundstage. Music is supposed to come from the front, like your at a concert. ONe way to help correct this is the reverse the pahse on your subs, i.e. make te negative positive and vice versa. You can do it by rewiring at the amp, or newer cd players can do it for you saving you the time With the sub wired out of phase, you may actually notice the bass seems to be coming from closer to the front. Play with it for a bit and see ifd you like it, but have the sub turned down before you press the button to be on the safe side.

Paul, The W7 is a great sub, and can put out soem great sounds, but it's not worth the hassle (to me that is). Besides paying $700 or more per sub, it is hell trying to plot a good box for them. THere are very limited boxes they sound great in, it's just annoying. That's not even mentioning the rediculous 3 ohm coils which very few amps can power effecieantly. The IDMAX and XXX have better SQ, and are much more user friendly, as well as freindly on the wallet (i've seen idmax's new under $300.) Unless the person I'm talking to has more money than they know what to do with, I will always suggest the 2 alternatives. The $800 I'd save buying 2 IDMAX's over the W7's can *almost* get me a Zapco 9.0 to power them with.

RE: I'd just like to say.

better SQ?!? i beg to differ. my ears think otherwise, except for the XXX since i havent heard one yet. i agree on the money thing but the coils arent so bad, just get an amp thats 1ohm stable and youre set. as far as boxes go, if u build them to JL spec, they sound incredible.

RE: I'd just like to say.

DO not screw down the boxes to the floors! Our cars flex a lot, and it may shred the floor.

How would you recomaned securing it then??

If you keep the carpet in the trunk (like most do) velco works perfect. Staple a couple strips to the bottom of your box and voila, no movement.

RE: I'd just like to say.

gotcha. I plan on turning my trunk into a large mass of fiberglass, so I guess that doesnt apply...
