Inside Rear View Mirror

Hi, all...

Have a 1998 Lincoln Continental....
The rear view mirror is undergoing what, I believe, is called "flaxing" in the Autodim....
It has autodim, compass and map lights, with an 8 prong plug...and 3 buttons on the underside, 2 for the lights (which work) and one for the autodim, I guess (which does not work)....
I would like to replace it....
The back of the mirror has a large circle with an E8 inside it and the number 012017.....with the name Donnelly...
Any help on a proper replacement, please???

Thanks

Hey, thanks for the response.....

You are right...dealer is insane....and parts are coming out of the ears on EBay...problem is, they all have 7 prong connection....for some ridiculous reason, mine is wired with 8....

Would you happen to know who would have this part with 8 prong harness???

By the way, great looking cat!!!!!!

I ONLY show a 8 prong....not sure why they are 7 prong unless yours is from a different year? Maybe your car is a late 97 production model?

Like I though.......7 prong is a 1997 model.

You just need to find a seller that has a 1998-2001 model.

Lol! No problem, it just seems to be one of those parts, the ones that you order 3 times until you find the right one.

I realize this thread ran about a year ago, but I'm in the same boat now. Replacing my '98 mirror with one from an '01. The '98 has the 8-pin coinnector, and the '01 has a 7-pin.

I saw the wiring diagram above and am wondering if it is the same one for an '01 mirror?? If so, you have just made my life MUCH easier.

Only thing is - my car doesn't have a LG/O wire in the 8-pin socket. (The "new" mirror I have has map lights, the old one from my car doesn't.) There are only 6 wires in the 8-pin plug. Will I still be able to wire this new mirror to at least get the compass and auto-dim featuress going again??

Thanks!
Mark

Welcome! :)

You would need to compare the wiring diagrams to answer your question.

Thanks. I love my Continental, but this mirror thing is driving me nuts.

I understand that I need to compare the proper diagrams... What I was asking was if the wiring diagram in this thread for the 7-pin connector is the same as the one for an '01... if it is, I can work from there.

Can anyone answer that for me, or can someone supply a proper wiring diagram for the '01 mirror?

Again, thanks!
Mark

Can anyone verify that the 7-wire diagram shown earlier in this thread is for the 2001 mirror wiring? PLEASE????

In any event, my '98 mirror does not have a LG/O wire, so if I am able to get this '01 mirror wired, I need to find a suitable source for that wire - since it has map lights and my '98 did not.

Anyone?? Thanks!

As the '98 did NOT have map lights to start with, you would need to run a hot wire from the fuse block and run it through a switch to power the map lights on the mirror....

At least that what it sounds like to me....flip switch to turn on map lights.
