Modern double din radio

Hello
is there a way to put a screen radio into the Mark 8 (95) without cutting? There are many modern radios which have short body 1,5 DIN size
Has somebody experience with this?

Yes. Any have done including me. Just get a double din. most will fit. If you go somewhere like Best Buy or try to buy online by the car model you will not get any results Because stock is technically a 1.5 din.

hm I read many postings from people who hat to cut something off the dash to fit the double din in. Which radio do you have?

I've done a couple double-din installations on 1997 Marks now, and both were possible, but required some creativity for fit.

Basically, there was some plastic structure that needed to be cut out behind the dash to accommodate the "body" of the stereo, but the opening for the faceplace was actually slightly larger than standard double-din. This required me to make a custom "adapter" for the faceplate to achieve a clean finish. the first install was very thin plywood, my second was actually a scrap of Laminate flooring left over from a bathroom remodel. (then painted black..) Both worked well. and until now, nobody knew about the flooring. :)

One of those oscillating "wiggle tools" is useful for cutting. I used a rotozip on my first attempt and it was... messy.

My increasingly fuzzy memory is telling me that a '95 is a double-din also, (where 93-94 were not.) Others here will correct me if I'm off by a year. In which case none of what I've just typed will be helpful.

Do you think a short body radio like this kenwood will fit without modifications?

There is a double din install kit but it says the dash has to be removed if you want ro remove the radio again ...

I'd wait for a "gen 1" pro to chime in, but based on what I've seen, I wouldn't guarantee it. The overall shape is very similar to the factory deck, so "maybe." It's all about how thick the face is.

What I can say is that the mounting kit is likely unnecessary, unless you're just jamming it in there as a wedge. I've always found better methods..
