My car is a learning project. I am already pretty mechanical with small engines and basic fab. So I'm trying to make a faster sleeper 2nd car fun to drive type thing. End game is a 350 whp with a m110 supercharger I'll adapt and I'll need a LSD and want 4.10s with it. Its more about the LSD so I don't spin as much. But if im going to opening rear diff I'd be putting gears in too.
Shops are quoting me $1200-$1500 for labor if I bring them the full rebuild kit, parts, seals, fluid, etc. I understand its a fair price given how its not a particularly easy swap and not much familiarity at regular shops for this.
I don't have skills or patience to do install myself.
I've read that a potential solid axle swap could be done but I am not aware of any bolt in setups. If so let me know, or if any bolt in brackets or weld-on kits you know of exist (prob not). A ford explorer was mentioned but I have no idea if that was just chatGPT nonsense. I imagine i'd have to change the drive shaft in that case too which doesn't save on costs really.
Online someone said you could just swap the 'pumpkin' with the gears and lsd assembled already, and basically insert it in-between the axles and connect drive shaft. Where would I find one of these with a 4.10 gear already in it? Anyone sell these use?
If i buy a used gear set that fits, like from a 4.10 cobra with the right spline count, can I place that in the carrier without having to lap the gears and such? Do I still need to do the precision work with the shims and such? I've never done a diff swap.
Should I just pony up and pay ~1500 to 2k in total for to get the 4.10s put in? I already plan on getting the chip set up and I can drive it manually around town with the gear select while I wait.
