My '79 Mark V

This will be my reintroduction to the new board and my attempt to help create an active forum for entusiasts of older Lincoln models. My '79 is Light Red, as near as I can tell from the brochure I picked up at Carlisle with the LOD. This means that it is mostly gold, but if the sky or lighting is just right, it looks pink. It has the 400 motor, since the 460 was discontinued for '79 in the V. It has a red velour interior. It's old and showing it's age, but it's been extraordinarily reliable, needing almost no repairs beside a muffler and a rad. It could use some engine work, like valve seals and piston rings. It's a pig on gas, probably due to age and mechanical wear. The greatest thing about the car is it's style. I love the long hood, squared edges and sharp creases in the body line. Even at it's age of 24 years old, it still bears the look of style, class and elegance.

RE: My '79 Mark V

I recall the car vividly. The color is PINK METALLIC, but Lincoln didn't wanna call it "PINK" so they resorted to "Light Red Glow" I believe. It's a nice color, a light soft pink with alot of metallic in it. It usually had the dark red or white interior, usually leather. They usually had a Dk. Red side moulding & Dk. red pin stripe. I was in love with them but selling Dodges and could not buy one. Would love to find one now, with 14,000 miles on it in a barn :)

No, I didn't, Paul. I go to that site frequently & I did see it! As a matter of fact, it was up 4-Sale for quite some time. How many can I buy, Paul? I am actually 1 car over my limit. I am out of it all for at least 4 years, no matter WHAT comes along. A friend called last night after finding a 1969 Imperial LeBaron 4-Dr. Hardtop LOADED in Champagne gold with Chocolate Brown padded limo style roof & matching leather interior. 34 years old and a multiple trophy winner with a fully documented and backed up with all service records 32,700 miles on it, or like 800 a year. I made him promise not to call me about any candy like that 'til Matt's outta college & THAT is another 3 to 4 years.... So many cars....so little money......no more room :(

Thanks guys,

Sandy, you're right on almost all counts. Mine is a real light pink and has the red trim inserts. I don't have the leather though.

I really like the dark blue CE in the link. When they say it has a big sunroof, they mean it. My first V had the sunroof and it was huge. My first V was a '77, 400ci, off white grey with matching leather and some blue trim. It was much rougher than my current V, but I liked it enough to get the pink one.

Alexander, I don't have pics scanned, but I gave Emily a pic and I think she included it in an LOD newsletter last year. I might be able to get some new ones taken.

It's a nice color. Not sure I'd call it P*I*N*K however, more like a Rose Mist Metallic, No?

RE: My '79 Mark V

I think They called It the "Rose/Rose'" Edition. I had a '79 Cartier Edition which My wife used to call the Pink car. Actually, I think It was more of a Beige color with a whisper of pink. Same 400 Engine with only 34.000 Miles. Very sweet car, only I hated to put miles on It let alone drive It. I finally got bored with It and sold It. Now I have a '76 Lipstick Edition with a 460. All white with Red side Mouldings and Red accents Inside.
