Navigator power lock problems

Former LOD President
I'm having a slight problem with the power lock on the liftgate of my 02 navigator. Namely, it doesn't work.

I followed the troubleshooting instructions on alldata. The actuator has two wires going to it, one PK/BK, one PK/OG. I removed the connector from the actuator and tested each wire with a test light. The PK/OG wire gets 12v when i hit unlock, but the PK/BK doesn't get anything when i hit lock. Alldata says it's a circuit problem, fix circuit and retest. yea, thanks.

I checked the wires again, with the same results in the headliner at another connector those wires go through. According to alldata, there is another connector in the line somewhere, but i have no idea where. Anyone know?

Also, there is a relay box somewhere up front for the power locks. Anyone know where that is? This should all be the same as an expedition.

RE: Navigator power lock problems

I looked at those same schematics on alldata and couldn't figure out where they were telling me to look. C270 is the next one to check, C428 was already checked. It shouldn't be the central security module because according to the schematic, the same lead from that module unlocks/locks all doors with the possible exception of the drivers door.

Right lower cowl panel, 8 pin connector. Now let's see if i can actually find that :). Would that be behind the glove box, or below it maybe?

RE: Navigator power lock problems

I think when they say cowl panel, it is the lower kick panel forward of the A-pillar, actually below the level of the glove box. It's amazing the stuff they fit in there(again based on typical F150/F250s).

RE: Navigator power lock problems

Those are close but a little different from the '02. They redesigned the trucks in '03.

RE: Navigator power lock problems

Dave, if your truck is like mine, the electrical problems are going to get worse. My truck started out with the passenger side rear window not working right. Then the locks started messing up. Then when I rolled down the drivers window the stereo and lights would blink off. Then my temp gauge and oil pressure gauge stopped working on occasion. Then the stereo got some sort of short and blows fuses the second I put them in. Even with the stereo removed. There are some other electrical problems I am forgetting. My truck has never had an after market stereo system or alarm. Talked to the previous owner. It was leased and they drove it the way it came off the lot. In the research I have done I have found that the trucks that have electrical problems have a ton of them. The ones that dont, never do. Its like there is no middle ground. Once I find the short in my stereo, the truck is gone. Have you tried changing your plugs yet?

If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?

RE: Navigator power lock problems

The truck only has 48k on it. I'll change the plugs when it starts missing. The oasis report didn't indicate any funky electrical problems. There was a complaint about the sub not working, and they checked it and it was fine. The tailgate lock is probably just a bad connection somewhere. The only other electrical problems are a slight whine in the stereo when accelerating when very cold (like cold start on a 10 degree morning, it goes away in a mile) and the backup assist will occasionally beep randomly (dealer said it worked fine).

The problems you're having sound like you have a bad ground somewhere. What year is your truck?

Also, supposedly a common problem is a leak around the windshield that lets water leak on the GEM (general electronic module or something like that) in the dash. That could be your problem as well.

RE: Navigator power lock problems

Its not the gem. Already checked that. Mine is an 01
