Ended up with a ported box. How'd that happen.

Yea, well anyway I ported my box. It's 22inch by 14inch by 15.5inch and now has a 2x9x23inch port in it.

SOUNDS LIKE ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The cut in the front went bad because I didnt have my workbench to cut on. (sister confiscated it for a party  ) So the front looks bad but the port is A-OK. I forgot to put glue on the port though. Plus I kinda eye-balled screwing the port on and used way too many screws. I was going to cover it with some cover stuff but ohh well.

Anyway, I measured incorecctly and the port is about 4mm offset from the hole. I've talked to some people and they have told me that it really shouldnt make a different.

I've lost decibal levels. My entire mid-range is gone. I knew I was taking a chance but now that I'm on this side of the fence I'm pissed I ever messed with it. Now, I have to either make a new face and get right deminsions for another port or make an entirely new box. I got the demensions from someone who has a box which is about 2.2ft^3. I havent figured what mine comes out too but I think it's 2.5 last time I did the math. Anyway, he got his port deminsions from the guy who does this stuff http://www.acoustic-visions.com)www.acoustic-visions.com and said he got a lot more SQ from the sub. He was previously running a 1.5ft^3 sealed box.

Anyway, I raised the subsonic filter to 30 and no changes. Tomarrow I am going to turn it back to 20 (all the way down to the left) and do the same for the xover knob marked LPF and then turn it up just a tad so its still under half.

Anyway, Don't laught at the front cut. The port is clean just that cut went bad. You can blame my sister for that.

BTW the port makes a right angle inside the box and extends another 13 inches.

RE: Ooops I the saw musta slipped

Hence the port must have leaks. :( I'm making a new one. I still havent changed the xover though. Maybe that will help. :dunno:

RE: Ooops I the saw musta slipped

where does the right angle piece end?

Inside the box on the other side of the speaker. Its shaped like an L.

Paul.

After changing the xover it sounds much different. Before the BASS was really loud. It almost overpowered the focals. Now the bass sounds like it has cleared it's throat. Sounds like the sub has some flexibility too it and is putting out good sound. I guess I didnt know what the sub should sound like before. I don't know. Im still a newb with this stuff.

The box is going to be totally rebuilt next week. Deminsions will be 2.2ft^3 and the port will run from the side of the box and will not be a 3 deminsional shape. So, like, the port will be on very side of the front of the box. Also, with getting my work bench back  I will be able to make good cuts and with all the holes which I have now filled in I think the sub will sound much different.

A ported sub sounds much more relaxing to me. It's like you can feel the bass pass through you instead of 'shake' you.

Anyone else have any advice?

RE: Ooops I the saw musta slipped

What is the deal with the ridiculous amount of excusion on that sub? Who makes it and how much are they?

Your ported box should be louder, but you could have affected the loudness by changing the crossover point. The lower you go, the more you start to feel the music rather than hear the music. If you have something really low, like a 45hz xover, you're not gonna get a whole lot more than DEEP BASS!

2 15s@45hz + 500W = instant earthquake.

I kinda miss having two 15s on tap, but two tens is plenty loud after you turn 30. :)
