Paint issues

I think it was his form of frustration. :) Thats a classic case of double posting blues if I'd say so. haha

I knew you would keep it, just glad you have the ability, the new garage, and ALL winter to get it rolling! :D

Can you argue to get more money?

The worst that can happen is that nothing changes...

I actually talked with my insurance co about putting a special policy on the grey car based on what I considered replacement value to be... This makes me think it would be worth the few extra bucks to have a 6-8K policy put on the car...

Glad you are keeping it, what's the plan? :D

I need to retire so I could work on the cars full time! ;)

Wait, that ain't gonna work... I wouldn't have any money. :frown:

The old axiom of time and money... when you have one you don't have the other and you can't have enough of either! :fart

THIS!! I did this when we totaled our dodge stratus last year. They offered about $1500, there wasn't a chance in hell I could replace that car for 1500 with something similiar. I showed them a list of recent repairs above and beyond normal maintenance along with ads for other similar cars for sale locally. I ended up getting just about 4k for it. JP, I'm sure you have a lot of receipts for work done to that car. It took me about a month and a half to get more money out of them. The trick is to just not accept their offer. Do not cash the check they send you. If you become enough of a pain in the ass to them they will work with you.

Don't forget the fact that JP wants (and should) keep the car. IMO if he tries to get more money for it, they will either want more money to buy it back or won't sell it to him at all.

True, but it depends how you work it. When I got into an accident in my 95 a few years back (5 or 6) they wanted to total it because they only valued it at about 4000. I was able to get them to give me the most they could before totaling it. I ended up making out pretty well, although I did all of the work myself.

I talked to our fleet manager at work to get the skinny on the process here in WV if I want to keep the vehicle.

I basically have two choices...

1. Accept the offer and keep the car with a salvage title. Take plenty of pictures before/after repairs.

2. Do not accept the offer and fix it out of pocket.

Yes, I could argue (and I did with the '96 but it was a borderline case of being totaled), but the results would likely be minimal since the damage is far beyond borderline.

Basically I'm trading a salvage title for 2 grand. Since I never really plan on selling the car, I'm good with that. But, I'm thinking I'm done paying comprehensive/collision on the Mark VIIIs.

All I can add to this JP is that if you want a good quality repair with definite attention to mark viii detail, bring it up here.
I can get some quotes for you if you like.

Really? I could send you pics. :)

I can tow it up there no problem and have no rush schedule at least. I have a guy here that does good work but he really doesn't like jobs like this. Plus he knows how anal I am.

You know my email. After years of dealing with bodyshops I finally found a guy that can paint. He runs a custom paint shop here, not a run of the mill bump shop. IceNinecustoms.com SEMA cars, Detroit Autorama cars, etc...

I've had just liability on my cars for years. I insure 3 cars, and I'm the only one that drives them. I've probably already saved enough money to replace 3 of them.:)

Also, I've seen a lot of Jeremi's paint guy's work, it's definitely top notch.

I agree.
NJ car insurance is just about the highest in the nation. I dropped collision a long time ago, with a $1,000 deductible and the money i saved is more than any pay out for totaling the car and like you with the money saved could buy a replacement.

Ohh NOOES!

Ohh NOOES!

What is it about SHHS that brings this irony about. Been there done that, had mine screaming good, then bam..... Just read the enitre thread. I come in late always and try to catch up on reading while eating dinner.

Im sorry to see your baby crumpled a little, but the real important thing is LIFE, yours and the idiot. Glad to hear youre alright and them too.

Its a loosing battle with the rip off insurance companies to pay you what it was "worth". All they see is a NADA bluebook price. But it back from them and get a salvage title. When its all fixed up, noone will know the better and youll still have it. Question here is, it it just superficial 1/4 panel, or did it get to the frame?
Dont let them total it like mine, then the VIN is destroyed forever. Let them salvage title it and pay you for the loss. I made big mistake taking total price from them after fighting with them for a while about the price. I still got screwed over, but it will all wash out in the end when i get the other one on the road.
Holy crap, still cant believe it. It was tried and true and ready. Maybee God dont want us in blue cars.....haha My next one is black and is sitting in the garage undergoing transformation.
Is that shop new? I read in some of the posts your new garage. Lets see it. I just put up a lil 24X30 but havent walled it in yet. Put that beast on a trailer and bring it to a bodyshop, let them cut that 1/4 off, and weld on a new one and give it back to ya. The rest looks pretty straightforward bolt ons. Hel mine still has a bent front bumper , but the styrofoam cover nose still fits over top of it so its staying. The frame is straight.
I say milk the insrance company, stand firm to those rip offs, and fix the blue flame. It looks bad to an onlooker, but once you pull off the crinklies, and see it underneath, im pretty sure youll change your mind. Mine is sitting naked in the garage next to the other one with no nose front denders or interior/dash in it. She looks ugly now, but i can see it in the future. Just got the other black one done today and dropped it off to the paint booth for new paint.

FIX IT! FIX IT! Its your new mission over the winter and we'll all hit SSHS next year. I think Marvin should be ready then too.
Whats going on with the white one? Shes pretty as well. I would be tempted for a conversion but its cheaper and lesss time consuming time wise to fix up the flame. Its bascly done, just needs to be straightened out and ironed a little. Keep your head up and push on.

I can vouch for him as well.
