I see lots of people going with the cobra intake, but what about the supercharger from the lightning?? or does the Cobra have one too ? Is there a problem with the install? i found a setup on Ebay for about 1200.00 but i wonder about install cost and trouble ??

RE: Supercharger...

You can get the Eaton off the 03 Cobra to work but it's not worth it, not worth the time or money.

RE: Supercharger...

the lightning supercharger won't fit because the deck height on our motor is different. The cobra supercharger won't fit because the heads are different. And neither will likely fit under the hood.

RE: Supercharger...

So, i wonder this... i down loaded a background from LMS and it has what looks like a Mark 8 with a supercharger what set up is that?? it looks real good.

RE: Supercharger...

As I'm doing the cobra intake modification, and I won't have any hood clearance issues (it's not a Mark VIII, but a 57 TBird with a Mark VIII engine); I have been looking into the Kenne Bell twin screw for the 96-98 cobras. The only issue I see right now is going to be getting the right person to reflash/chip the PCM for the KB.

I think the KB twin screw would be the way to go if there is enough hood clearance. You get the extra torque immediately, versus at the higher revs with a vortech. The only drawback is that you can't intercool, so your limited to around 400 HP, unless you use water/alky injection (snow boost cooler, or equivalent).

Has anyone tried the Kenne Bell twin screw on a Mark VIII?

RE: Supercharger...

On a mark there might be a hood clearance issue, but that can be dealt with. I'm sure someone has tried it, i don't think anyone aroune here has. The only thing i don't like about that is the fact that you can't intercool it. On the 2 valve kits you can.

RE: Supercharger...

Kenne Bell has an intercooled supercharger kit for the 99+ Cobras. Wouldn't it be pretty much straight forward to switch to 99+ cylinder heads and get the 99+ KB kit?

Depends on what you consider straightforward. It should all bolt up, more or less. By the time you get that far into it though you should really have some headwork done and definitely get a forged bottom end. Unless you could just pick up a '99 cobra motor.

RE: Supercharger...

You're right there. The Mark VIII and 96-98 cobra heads are different than the newer 4V heads at the intake. The 99+ cobra 4Vs have tumble ports, and no IMRCs, plus the intake and maybe even the exhaust ports are diffent shapes.

The absolute best combination would be 03-04 cobra heads and intake on a built Mark VIII or 96-98 cobra block (forged pistons, rods, billet oil pump gears and trigger wheel, ARP hardware, etc.).
You get the light weight and strength of the aluminum "mountain" block, plus the top end with built in intercooler of the new cobra.
Put a Kenne Bell twin screw on this combo, and you can easily be in the 500-600 HP range, on pump gas.

This would take a lot of $$$. In addition to the head and intake swap, it would require swapping the entire front of the block (timing cover, chains, tensioners, accessories, etc.), plus some electronic changes to control the intercooler. Also some major fuel system changes when you decide whether to go "returnless" or not.

I'd love to that, but right now I'm going to use the stock Mark VIII engine, cobra intake, and get as much as I can out of it with a good tune.

With the 99+ KB unit you wouldn't have to change the accessories on the front.

RE: Supercharger...

Here's the KB twin screw, discussed above, that will fit a Mark, on Ebay.

(Edit by Mod - no Ebay Links allowed)

Note: you may need to already have the cobra intake conversion on a Gen I, and you will need to massage the underside of the hood, to get it to fit right.

RE: Supercharger...

I am going with the KB 2.2 unit on my Mark when I get back to the States. I'll post pics when i get it done. Yes I'll have to mod my hood, because it only has an inch of clearance now with the Cobra motor in there and my air intake tube rubs underside of hood.

Whos got the best price on these? I need a hookup. lol I guess I should check on a possible group buy I can jump into on The Coral or simillar website?
