The 95 is going to need new pipes...

Well it has been about 7 years since I put the exhaust on my 95. It has now gone to hell after quite a few years of winter duty. It was a custom exhaust installed by a local exhaust installer. It was amuminized steel tubing, SS muffs, xpipes, and tips. I have painted it every other year but the rust won this year. The problem was the steel wire used the welds. The pipes are still decent but all of the connections and a few inches back are falling apart, the car is LOUD as hell now. I hate to throw any real money at the 95 since it has 170k on it and the paint looks like crap but I need it for the winter. I'll have new pipes installed in a week or so. I'm going to reuse the muffs, tips, and xpipes, they are all still in great shape.

Pics before and after will follow...............

I've never heard of anyone having to replace their Mark VIII exhaust because it rusted out. I guess that is one system that Lincoln did right on our cars.

Too bad they didn't make rocker panels out of exhaust pipes.:D

I still have a perfectly good exhaust system from my 205K mile red Mark, which never missed a Michigan winter.

Yea it was aftermarket, I wanted some sound. Stainless or nothing on any custom exhaust for me in the future.

Why not just have them cut out small sections where the welds failed? I would think it might save you some money. :)

I talked to my exhaust guy about that. He thought it would be more trouble than it's worth. He's going to bend up all new pipes for 300 out the door as long as his boss isn't around. ;)

He knows I've sent a lot of business to them over the years. Did I mention he's going to do it in all stainless, welding wire also.... :)

yea, the only downside is he is located back near my parents house about an hour away so I will have to take a vacation day. But it will be well worth the savings, and I know he does good work. I'm just waiting for the stainless flanges to arrive..... The exhaust will be worth more than the car at this point lol

Haha, maybe you'll get a little extra cash soon to help you out. Shouldn't you be saving for a house payment.

Got them done yesterday, a few pics to come. Came out pretty good overall, for a hell of a good price to since they know I have sent a lot of business their way. It wasn't done a minute too soon either. On the way there the back of the x pipe completely separated from the rear half of the exhaust when I hit a bump in the road. Nothing fell off the car but it was just hanging there, it was loud as hell too.

some parts of the old exhaust:

Exhaust looks good, but damn, what size ATs do you have on the back of this thing ?

I just put some winter tires on my truck, sure as hell it feels better than before ;)

You're definitely serious about winter duty of this mark viii !

At the time when I bought the tires it was the smallest size, 225/70/16. So they are a little tall. The a/t's aren't as good in the snow as i would have hoped, they get clogged up sometimes and suck in anything icy. The fronts are standard size Cooper winter masters. The tires are about 5 seasons old now and really starting to harden up, but they get the job done for the most part.

It pains me to see all the rust man, sucks hard! I didn't even notice the mud boggers until J said something, haha.

Me too, it kills me to see it so rusty. It actually stayed nice for quite a while even though its seen a lot of winters. Its gone down hill fast the past few winters......winter sucks unless I'm snowboarding which I don't get to do too much of anymore.

That rust isn't bad, I've had and have worse.:D

I have no problem driving a sacrificial Mark VIII in the winter, I'm on my second one.:)

The Mark VIII makes a very comfy and reliable winter car.

I'm digging the tires, I could have used them this past week!

I can say if you want really good snow and ice performance those all terrains are just ok, not great. Previously I lived down a long dirt driveway that would turn into nasty mud every spring, so I needed a decent mud and snow tire. Now that I don't need a mud tire I would stick with all snows. The fronts are Cooper winter master in the stock size and those were decent. Also the smallest size in the all terrains was 225/70/16. They are very tall and heavy. I think I car with stock gearing would really feel like I pig with these.
