Thinking about trucks... (Navigators)

RE: Thinking about trucks...

22400. was listed at 22995 when i looked at it, but the mirror tag on the window in the picture says 24995. It sat on that lot for awhile apparently. According to the windshield sticker it's 4 months overdue for an oil change, but not over the miles yet. According to OASIS the odometer reading 8 months ago was 2500 miles less than what i bought it with. Yet the only things i've found wrong with it so far are a dirty interior (tan shows a lot more dirt than black), some scuff marks on the body (normal wear/tear) and (i noticed this morning) a slight bend/dent on the bottom of the passenger running board, like from a curb or something.

I'm thinking about maybe removing the running boards. I'm not sure how it would look without them, though, or even if i could get them off without damaging anything else. I don't need them to step in or out, and i think they'll just end up making my pant legs dirty in the winter. Or i'll break them off if i off-road it.

Those running boards look exactly like the ones we get on some pickups. They are removeable. Some of our guys pull them to put bling bling nerf bars on. We usually put them back on at trade-in time.

2 black Lincolns. :) Life is good.

Thinking about trucks... (Navigators)

I've been planning on upgrading beaters again soon. This time i would like to upgrade from "beater truck" to "truck" or possibly "nice truck". I was originally thinking diesel F250/F350 or Excursion, 2000 or 2001. But today i started thinking maybe a Navigator will fit the bill. The diesels are $18k-$25k, i can get a 99-02 Navigator for $11k-$16k. If fuel mileage isn't too much worse, I think a Navigator might be more fun to drive every day.

So, some questions:

Did all the '99's have the DOHC motor? If not, did all the '00's?

Any reliability problems specific to Navigators or 99-02 ford trucks?

For those of you with Navigators, what kind of MPG do you see on the highway? (EPA says 12 city/16 highway, diesel trucks should get 16-20 highway, maintenance cost differences should make up the difference between 16 and 18)

Any specific features i should look for or stay away from?

Overall, how do you like the Navigator (if you own one)?

Has anyone here towed with a Navigator? If so, how did it do? My boat/trailer loaded probably weighs 6000-7000 lb. i would be towing that, and possibly occasionally towing the mark on a car trailer (lincoln towing a lincoln to the races - now that's style).

What i'd like to do is find one for significantly under book, trade my suburban in, and finance as much as i can. Hopefully take enough cash out to pay off the mark, and then i can have two lincolns, maybe even two black lincolns, and one car payment. There's a black navi that looks good in the pics, an 00 with 88k miles, for 11k in royal oak. might have to take a look at that and see what they can do for financing.

96 Grand Cherokee is way old. I don't see how Jeeps would be less reliable than a Navi, but only time will tell. Congrats DAVE, you got the car that you wanted plus a B day :)! Lets see some pics !!!

They dont have the 96 anymore. They brought it new back than and started having those problems before it was even a year old. I have heard from people that own new ones that nothing has changes and they also have electrical problems.

Mind you, these are slightly out of date.

I have been testing multiple different routeings and what not variables, so the intake is constantly changing. I found that the longer the intake tube, the higher the voltage to the MAF and the worse the performance, so I have since ordered a 3 inch silicone red 90` inlet, and I have some Lightning parts (90mm MAF and 42# injectors) that have yet to get put in. But for almost 8000 pounds (7200 curb wieght, plus wheels and tires, grille guard and all the other crap I added) it really moves. 347HP 440# torque
