Updated my car stereo in my 97 and now conveniently includes Apple CarPlay.

That's a mighty fine looking install!

I installed a "Joying" Chinese Android unit a few years back to get the same conveniences. The low price I paid did come with some disadvantages though. it's a bit tight on RAM which impacts the performance. I have no doubt that going with a mainstream brand these days will provide much more satisfying results..

Are you happy with the performance and sound quality? Any lag on the touch?

I am very happy with this unit. I did a lot of research prior to pulling the trigger. And yes biggest draw has been streaming my music. I don’t have many plans on using the DVD player but it was an added bonus. Next I plan to add the backup camera (already has connection, still looking for a camera) and adding remote start. The only issue I’ve noticed so far is my phone needs to Be plugged in via the USB port. I’d like my phone to seamlessly connect via Bluetooth automatically when I enter the car. Perhaps there’s a way in settings, haven’t had a chance to play with it yet. Sound quality is okay. I do hear a lot of static when the unit is one and nothing is playing. Will have that looked at this week. Also tinting the windows on the 14th.

Bluetooth is finicky tech. I bet if you spend some time in the settings you can get it to connect the way you prefer. As long as the deck is halfway modern (not a 2008 implementation of bluetooth for example) I'd think it would support that.

Too bad about the sound quality being "okay." I'd expect more from JVC. Your comment on the "static" has me curious. Hopefully there are improvements to be had here. You'll have to keep us posted on that as you learn more.

One word of caution on remote starters. The only one I've personally worked with that's worth a damn is AstroStart, and you'll pay more for one of theirs. Most of the remote start units on the market require you to butcher the car's wiring pretty severely, and I just don't trust 'em. Not to mention our Marks have PATS (the chip-key) that has to be bypassed to make the remote start work. (or just tape a spare key under the dash..) Don't get me wrong - I live in Minnesota. Remote start is handy, but I've always opted not to put one in any of my Lincolns..
