Water Getting In

After the last two rain storms the rear, passenger's floor of my '05 Town Car has been soaked - I mean flooded. I've examined the door seals very closely and cannot find anything amiss. I've run a hose over the roof and running down the rear door and can find nothing coming in the car. I'd really appreciate hearing from someone on what could be causing this.

Check the seal for the cowl vent in front of the windshield on the passenger side. You may want to test with the garden hose running water over the passenger side windshield.

Also inspect the cowl drain on the lower passenger corner of the cowl assembly. There is a small plastic 'flap' which is supposed to pass water but often will be plugged with leaves and debris.

Either condition will allow water to enter the HVAC ductwork into the passenger compartment and drain through channels in the passenger floorboard to the rear footwell which is the lowest point.

Driller,

Thanks for responding. I don't think the problem is up at the cowl because the front floor was dry as a bone and just the rear passenger's floor was wet. On further examination I noticed the lower corner of the rear window is separated slightly on the passenger's side. Maybe 1/16". There's a slope going up into my garage and the car was sitting facing downhill when I discovered the water. Now I'm wondering if it didn't pool up around the base of the rear window and somehow drain into the rear of the car. It's raining tonight and I parked it pointing uphill. If it's still dry in the morning that will be a good clue. Thanks again.

Passenger's rear floor was dry this morning after a good rain last night. The car was parked with the front end pointing up the slope. I think the seal around the rear window may be the culprit.
