Well, exhaust is in the car...

Finally brought the car in. I wish I could have waited for Dan's GP, but I just had to get it done with the guys from SCT up here in 2 weeks and me being busy with work it was the only time i could get it done. I think it turned out very nice, and if any of you live in the Minneapolis area, I would highly recommend taking your cars to this guy. He did the work on my truck a little over 2 years ago (I actually used the same muffler }( ) and was really excited to get my car on the lift as I had visited him several times so we could get an idea of how long it would take to get it done. The car deffinately feels a lot better in the top end though.

Only thing I have to get worked out is I pulled into a driveway and my muffler hit my driveshaft, did not sound happy. ::grrr::

Anyways...on to the pictures.

For those of you who may or may not have seen whats in the stock exhaust...it ain't purdy.

And here's how it turned out.

Tips will be on in 2 weeks. He is fabricating a set of dumps/x-pipe to bolt on to the flanges (up front of course) for when I go to the track too}( I'll get some finished pictures after he gets that all taken care of.

RE: Well, exhaust is in the car...

Damn that must be really loud. Is that a built-in X-pipe muffler? I wish my exhaust guy used flanges on mine, what a cheapo bastard. I don't see where you're going to put the X-pipe on.

RE: Well, exhaust is in the car...

The "Muffler" is a cross flow design, has 2 x's built into it. Magnaflow makes another shorter version that has 1 x in it.

It's actually not to loud since I still have cats, but give me time and those will be gone too. The only thing I need to do somethine about is the resonance at cruising speeds....time for some Dynomat.

The reason I have flanges is I tpld him I wanted them so I could drop the whole exhaust when I'm under the car, otherwise he usually just welds the whole thing as 1 piece.

Wish I'd done the same.

RE: Well, exhaust is in the car...

Some people are just lazy man. I told the guy I wanna drop the exhaust soon for the gears and driveshaft, or whatever else... he said "well the factory gave you one flange, the only way to do it is to cut the exhaust on one side." What do I know? Next time I'll tell him to shut his mouth and do it right.

RE: Well, exhaust is in the car...

I think the most amazing thing is the B&M transmission drain plug isn't leaking, I welded mine and it still leaks a tiny bit.

RE: Well, exhaust is in the car...

Maybe it's because it's not a B&M drainplug? ;) I guess I have never heard of anyone have problems with them leaking...was the same on my truck and thats why I used the same type.

Dammit, don't jinx me....now my companion flange seal (where the driveshaft meets the diff) is another story....that started leaking at ~3k after rebuild :(

RE: Well, exhaust is in the car...

Well...I already had the muffler (resonator) and it is the longer version of the dual in dual out that I don't think Magnaflow makes any longer (at least I didn't see it in their catalog). Total, well...we'll just say $570  which was more than we had thought, but He went through a lot of trouble to use the least amount of bends possible (originally thought it would be $300-400)....That is all before the tips too. He wanted the headers I had for my truck and the downtubes he had made for them....so he took that as part of the fee for the cost and install on the tips (which will be on the car next Friday). I am still trying to descide on some kind of muffler to install after the differential, but that probably won't come 'til later this summer if at all (we'll see how the sound deadening project goes....). I also have plans for electric cutouts in due time as well....}(

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=main&id=745 Here are the tips we ordered....I think they should look nice on the car, don't you? And for reference...Summit sells those tips for about half what Magnaflow lists them at, and he said he could go cheaper than Summit.
