x pipe vs. crossflow muffler

I am about to get 2 1/2 inch duals with the 3rd cat removed. In place of the 3rd cat I would like to put either an x pipe crossover or a crossflow 2 in 2 out muffler. Which setup would make more power? On which setup would it be easier to weld the 3rd cat back on for smog purposes?

RE: x pipe vs. crossflow muffler

you're not going to be able to weld the 3rd "cat" back on with either setup.

I don't think there'll be a noticeable difference in power either way.

Myself, i'd go with the muffler. I had too much drone with a single x pipe, and when i added headers it was just too loud and i had to add another muffler anyway.

RE: x pipe vs. crossflow muffler

Loud is a subjective term. A lot of people think my car is obnoxiously loud with the cut outs open, I personally think it's a pretty mellow setup. In any case, I guess I will have to keep the whole rear stock section of my exhaust and swap it in when smog time shows up. All of this for maybe 5-7hp?

If you live in commiefornia, i wouldn't even touch it. At all.

Move out of that enviro-nutty communist pit and then go nuts.

I don't have any emissions tests on my car.

My suggestion is to go the way I plan to go. I plan to go true duals replacing the third cat with a dual inlet dual outlet cat. I've been researching this for quite sometime interviewing Mark owners in my State. Every Mark owner here in Texas I talked to has had problems passing emmissions when they eliminated the third cat. I don't want that headache. For this reason I am going with

Did they have trouble with the sniffer, or with the visual inspection?

RE: x pipe vs. crossflow muffler
