Leaving on vacation Monday...

Well, 'doing the round trip drive to Colorado again this year, (12 days) - the G.F. is going this time and is totally psyched! She's so excited she's alreay packed/repacked at least 5 times!

We're leaving CA through Tahoe and Reno, then dropping down through Salt Lake City to spend a couple nights at the family ski lodge in Brekenridge, CO, before visiting the folks for a few days in Berthoud, CO, about 50 mile north of Denver. Then we're heading south through Taos, NM, and Mesa Verde, on to the Grand Canyon, then Las Vegas, Death Vally, and back through Yosemite.

'Did a similar trip last year in the Mark VIII with zero problems - hopefully it'll be the same this year. I did get an extra CD cartridge for the trip this time so I can just keep 20 CDs loaded.

Also, you may remember last year and my quest for getting a NASCAR type windshield tear-off to keep from totally pitting out my windshield out across the desert, like what happened to my T-Bird. I finally got some last year from the actual NASCAR supplier, but have determined it's virtually the identical film Tap Plastics sells as glass safety film - completely clear - I've already tested it. So this year I'm doing my own.

Anyway, I'm taking a laptop, and will be checking in intermittently, and also be here until Monday...

RE: Leaving on vacation Monday...

good luck on the trip ! You can tell us how out of state gas compares to Cali gas in terms of fuel economy :)!

RE: Leaving on vacation Monday...

Tell us how the state of your accelleration goes to hell as you drive at 5,000 feet! The nice thing about being up that high is that EVERYONE'S car sucks up there, so it's still even-steven on stoplight races, just slow-motion.

RE: Leaving on vacation Monday...

Sounds like fun. I lived in Marin county for five years (Sausalito)I don't see how you can leave it for that long. Although where you're going is beautiful, nothing beats Marin county. IMPO>

Go in health, John. Be well & return safely. I'll try to not mess up my computer, whilst you are gone. :)

Checkin' in...

Checkin' in...

Well, gang - 'made it to Colo. and no serious problems so far. I started getting a continuous check engine light code P0122 - flakey throttle position sensor, so I had Max at fivestarford drop-ship a replacement to Colo. It seems to have cleared up the problem so far, but I have a nagging suspicion I still haven't found something yet, but it seems fine right now.

We leave Colo. Monday morning - on to the Grand Canyon and the rest of the trip. I'm only on dialup at the folks right now, so probably won't be checking back in again until I get back next weekend. But the trip has been great so far - my G.F. is having a totally fantastic time!

Later - John

Hey John, I hope the rest of your trip has gone as well as the first part.

I'm leaving GA next Wed on a trip that may last a month! Just me, my 2003 Duramax chev., and my 25' travel trailer!

Going North on the Blue Ridge Parkway to VA, visit my brother in Lynchburg,my sister in Williamsburg, and whatever Civil War Battlefield Sites as I am near {I'm a big fan of Civil War history}.

Then to Hagerstown, MD to visit an old friend Ihaven't seen since he left here 30 years ago!

Next will be Gettysburg PA Battlefield and who knows where from there.
Depends on the mood, finances, and time frame.

I've already put a message on my answering machine at my shop that I am closed for vacation till mid Oct!

'Back home...

'Back home...

OK gang - 'just got back Friday evening. Dan - the Amsoil seems fine - 'didn't have to add any the whole trip.

I was right about suspected problems - my fast idle has returned, with no check engine light. Again, only when hot outside. It didn't cause any serious problems, but I guess the only thing I can do now is have it diagnosed at a dealer.

Over 3400 miles, and no other problems. 24.0 mpg on the way out, and 23.0 mpg back, (more side trips on the return). That was with 2 people, and the trunk and back seat fully loaded.

I'll try to get some pics uploaded in the next few days.

'Good to be back - though a fantastic time was had on the road!
