Horrible wreck on my daily commute

RE: Horrible wreck on my daily commute

That's a bad one.

Something like that happened to my ex-boss from the pizza place i worked at. He was on a delivery, half a mile from the exit right next to my home at the time, stopped in traffic. A semi rear-ended him into the lawn fertilizing truck in front of him. His saturn was cut in half and he lost both his legs.

Wow. I've seen some major wreck aftermath...but anytime a chassis is cut in half, rarily does one escape with their life.

It is odd to see "triples" on film...here in calif, you dont see anything more than doubles...but I know oregon, and other states have tripple-trailer allowences...I dont know if it s state-wide here in calif to not allow them, or if its only on certain roadways...never the less, a single-trailer is hard enough to stop...multiply those odds by 3, and you're risking alot of lives.

More details: the driver of the 'severed car' actually was headed in the OPPOSITE DIRECTION, crossed UNDER the cables that guard the median, and hit the others head on.

In Austrailia, the trucks are twice as big and can have up to six trailers when crossing the outback. It is basically a small train.

RE: Horrible wreck on my daily commute

in MI they are only allowed 2 trailers, but they are allowed to put more in each trailer than in other states. The only trucks you see with 2 trailers are gravel trains, though.

RE: Horrible wreck on my daily commute

Even doubles make me nervous. I pass doubles and triples as quickly as possible.

RE: Horrible wreck on my daily commute

The one accident I saw that was worse was a little Honda Civic hatchback that had been rear ended by a gravel truck and pushed under a school bus. IIRC, that driver survived, but the top of the car was ripped clean off.

One should 'pass' any tractor-trailer as quickly as possible. If you've ever drove one you just know. I always say anyone that pulls in front of a tractor-trailer has never driven one. I drove 'em for quite a few years and don't care to drive 'em at all now. I'm not paranoid with them, but I realize quite well the limitations and dangers. There's nothing like being behind the wheel of a 80,000 or even 100,000 pound rig and suddenly realize there's no way you're going to be able to stop. Freeways are the worst as there is no way you can leave enough 'safety zone' in front of you. The moment you do, someone in a 'four wheeler' simply slides right in there. ::uh::

RE: Horrible wreck on my daily commute

I do actually pass 'em all as quick as I can. I certainly don't want to be in their (huge) blind spot!
