Crap this sucks. I was just driving in the rain on a country road well within the posted speed limits and a deer came out of nowhere! I swerved to miss but his hind hoof hit my driverside headlight. I then could not regain control of the vehicle till it was too late. I glanced off of an imbankment where it messed up my side light, shifted my hood, broke my front grill surround, and dented my fascia. Man I am mad. I just filed the claim with my insurance agent but this is the last thing I need in my life right now. The car is still drivable but this sucks. Plus what crappy rental are they going to give me. I hope it is large like tne crown vic and damnit I want something rwd with a v8 too. Why should I be put in a taurus or something like that. Oh well I will see what happens. I am just so sick right now I could puke. I had just detailed the car and also only bought it about 2 months ago. Damn! Crap! Oh well I am just venting. Thanks everyone!

Well since it is drivable I will be taking it to a collision repair place close to me on Monday. The rental will be a midsize. Oh well at least I get a rental. Yes I am fine, but feel very angry and upset as all of you can imagine. I guess its good it happened now and not like a week before Carlisle or something. Good thing the Crown Vic has a 5 star safety rating. The airbag did not even go off but the damage is rather extensive now that I looked at it more. I would guess about 2k or so by all the cracked and broken fascia and header panel stuff. Thank you all for your concern and empathy. I just hope that this is fixed rather quickly and then it is done and behind me. Either that or they total it and let me get a new Marauder to replace it! LOL yeah right. Humor right now is my only coping device! I will take a pic or 2 tomorrow and post them to show what happens when a deer crosses your path on a wet road. I must have made the age old mistake of overcorrecting.

I drove a Gran Marquis for wprk for about 4 years. That vcehicle was terrible in the rain...it would skid on SPIT! I finally had they buy me Michlin HydroEdge to put on it. I should have done it years before. It became the best driving car on the road for wet weather. So good, I put them on my Mark VIII!

Sorry to hear about the deer damage...what happened to the deer? Venison for dinner tonight?

The deer just ran into the forest and away from me. It only hit its hoof on my car but it did some damage. The embankment on the other side of the road finished the job on my car. I could only be so lucky to have the deer walk away unscathed too LOL. Oh well.

Last year a frind of mine lent me a Crown Victoria to drive in a snowstorm, because the kid put on my origianl rock-hard tires on the Mark VIII instead of my snow tires. I had no way of gettin home otherwise. I thought the Crown Vic handled well.

Yep I forgot about that Leo. This is a whole lot more damage than that Foci meeting accident. I was shaking but that has now stopped. I just hope that the body shop fixes it RIGHT! OEM parts no aftermarket crap. I guess I have to look at the bright side, that headlight lens I was going to wetsand to make clearer is now being replaced with a new one.

I'm glad you're alright, but seriously, people get killed this way in deer country every year.

Everyone should be taught in drivers ed to never swerve to miss an animal on a roadway. It takes acute awareness of your car's reaction and your surroundings at that very moment to make an evasive manuever such as this, even at relatively low speeds. Almost as bad as 'slamming' on the brakes(didn't notice the truck in your mirror?).

Bill, the important thing is you did not get hurt. The car can be fixed a lot more easily then you. Don't get too worked up over it.

Thank you all for your compassion and caring. I too am glad I am ok in hindsight and that I was driving the Crown Victoria. I am afraid that if it were the old focus I may have been hurt and the car totalled. Here are two pics of the devistation! Hope to meet some old friends and new faces this June in Carlisle. Sucks because as you can see from the pics I just had it washed and looking good too!

That doesn't look too bad at all. Hopefully there isn't any hidden frame damage or suspension damage hidden.

Think what the damage would've been had you only hit the deer. I suspect it would've been a lot less.

Not to add insult to injury, but had the same set of circumstances occurred on a crowded throughfare you could've easily lost control and smacked head on into opposing traffic causing serious injury or perhaps death. No Bambi is worth that.

That time of year is upon us - drive careful out there.

...we use bows (and crossbows) here....My son and grandson are pretty good too.
