I highly doubt that. If he hit that deer square, it would have done a lot more damage. Bumper, grille, hood, for sure. Probably core support, possibly windshield. And then he'd have to clean all the blood, guts, and crap off the car. Deer do damage. Lots of it.

Still, as a general rule, swerving to miss isn't the best course of action. Most of the people killed each year because of deer on the roadways die because they swerved to miss, lost control, and hit something else. But you can still die hitting a deer.

Depending on the vehicle, I might swerve to miss a deer, or I might not. If i'm going 60 and i'm in a car, i'm swerving. If i'm in a truck, i'm hitting it. I'd rather take my chances with losing control and hitting something than take a 150 lb deer through the windshield.

Well took it to the collision repair shop today. They should have it done in a few days. Rental gave me a new GranPrix with less than 500 miles on it. It is ok but no full size with a v8 rwd like I am used to. Oh well. I agree I would not have wanted a deer through my windshield. Looks like a fender, lamps, front bumper cover, frt bumper nerf strip, header panel, and a possible hood. They are going to take the bumper cover off today and check for further damage.

I hear ya. I smacked one years ago front and center in a F250 doing about 60 after getting on the brakes from 75(after dark). It caved the front end and rolled up under the truck and ended up alongside the road in a unrecognizable ball of fur and blood. I expected to see antifreeze pouring from the front end but luckily no leakage of any sort despite the bent radiator support and the trashed bumper, grille and front edge of the hood.

My last encounter was in the '93 Mark VIII, although it was very low speed in comparison. I was returning home from snagging carryout for dinner when I encountered a trio of deer crossing the road. Little did I know there was a tiny dent in the front fender above the passenger side turn signal lamp where I barely made contact. You couldn't see it at night. The damage at the time was when the carryout in the passenger seat went airborn into the front floorboard where the drink tray had carefully been placed to avoid spills. :B

Just got the call, the car will be a week in the shop. The left frame rail was slightly bent and needs straightened. Also to my surprise they are able to straighten and save the fender. Oh well at least it will be a short time till it is back in my posession. Then the mods can start. Make it a true undercover car! Black Steelies and all.
