(dirty underneath-needs cleaning!)
Unbelievable how FAST things happen.
5 months ago, our friend picked up a 1985 Chevy S-10 pick up off an auction out of Texas. When the truck got here, it was exactly as described, except the motor. He wasnt too happy, because the motor was it's best feature(for him). he raced it a few times, and decided to park it while he builds his own set up. In the mean time, he raced his trusty El Camino(he's tough at the track...champ 2 out of 4 years)
fast forward...a couple months ago, he decided to sell it...$8900 turn key. Not many came a knockin'...I was interested, but not for near $9000. Besides we already had a race car.
Well, yesterday we loaded up and went to the annual labor day drags, and nothing was unusual. However, when we got to the track, the guy who sold us our dart comes over and says "hey, if you are still interested in Mike's truck, he dropped the price...he might even drop it lower for you. Go talk to him."
well, we went and had a pow-wow...Brenda still hadn't seen the truck, but ALWAYS wanted a race truck...she was pretty excited. So, we find out that he's selling it with no motor or trans...EVERYTHING else comes with it. We struck a price, and then told him I'd need a few days to come up with the cash. I knew I had to first sell our Dart, which might not be too easy.
WRONG
it was on craigslist for less than 15 minutes when I got an email about it. I didnt check my email for hours, but when I did, I checked the time stamp...12 minutes since I submitted the ad. The guy drove up with a trailer, and bought it for my asking price...cash.
we drove down to the truck's owner's house so Brenda could sit in it, and really check it out...she fell in love with it.
We will probably be picking it up Thursday, or this weekend.
Tommy, Joe, and Marc are ALL Chevy guru's...they pretty much had our motor "built" on paper with parts they have had in stock for a while...trans/converter are ready...need some basic parts(carb, distributor/ignition set up, etc), and then install it. We might be running 11 second passes in a few weeks, if all goes well.
I am thrilled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
