Quickest Lincolns of Distinction - DISCUSSION

Stock redline is 6000-6100rpm. 7000 rpm is safe for the 96-98 Mark VIII motors which come with Cobra valvetrain (beehive springs, valve guides, etc) stock but is hard on the stock torque converter. I haven't had any issues with my tranny but I get my fluid flushed every 10-15k miles so that probably helps a bit.

As per SH....rockers arms don't break, valve lash adjusters are "capable of working at 9,600rpms", "cobra valve spring is capable to 7,200 rpm"

Open that gap up to .055, the more gap you can run without misfiring the better your engine will run. .

We pinched his gap down chasing our tail trying to sort out his top end missfire, which turned out to be a failed MSD coil.

I'm trying to get him to replace the "other MSD" coil and after that he IS going to widen his gap back to atleast the stock recommended gap.

In the 4 shoeboxs of time slips I have I can't seem to find this one. :(

Everytime I see your avatar a noise instantly fills my thoughts.......

"AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Lol!

J, when are you going back to the track? I think if you remove everything from your trunk and maybe even your passenger seat you will be in the 13.8 range.

I thought it fit, that's how I've felt all week. LOL

Haha...I can feel your pain...I'm doing that right now from the sunburn I got after 4 hours of shirtless mowing! AHHHH!

Well...money's been tight, and I didn't get my cutout until wednesday so maybe next wed....wanna come?

I'm removing my pass/rear seats too, and maybe my drivers seat! Sitting on stirofoam would shed probably 50 lbs?

I remember on Thanksgiving bracket drags 05 at Sears Point I was out there racing in my 95 LSC (I think you were there). I had the passenger side headlight completely removed with true ram air straight to the conical filter. I'm surprised it actually didn't gain much with that setup and I couldn't get traction all day but I did manage to break 100mph at Sears Point which felt good even though i didn't break 13's because of crappy track prep.

True ram air to the conical filter? Would ram air work better going through a panel filter?

The problem with panel filters is they do not have enough surface media area for modified applications. They work fine for stock applications though. There is not a single NA 13 second Mark VIII on our list that uses a panel filter and that should tell you something.

That was the race where you didn't have ANY headlights right? I bet there was a huge amount of wind drag without having the front headlights/grill in place.

I didn't have the driver side headlight only and yea no grille either. I was thinking about running with no hood either but that would definitely have killed the aerodynamics of the car.

I would agree on that...my thoughts are in regards to how ram air works - by ramming air in as straight a line as possible to take advantage of incoming air velocity. On a conical application, the air would hit the head of the cone, slowing it down and stirring it up, thus negating the ram air effect. On a panel filter, the air at least has a chance to enter the upper intake without being stirred up or twisted.

I agree with you there Wayne....I think the best advantage of the "ram air" on his setup was the fact that he was getting cool air vs. hot.
