Ok! I know this is a sign. I sell my Mark in September, make a 850-mile trip and see 13 Mark VIII's in ONE DAY.
Who did I see? 2 Gen II's and 11 Gen I's - someone even pulling a black Gen II behind a 17-foot U-Haul.
Fess up - I was southbound in a Honda CR-V going 90 sounding like it was gonna blow up. Saw 5 in KC.
I'll be getting another Mark soon... the gods have spoken.
EDIT: The Honda has redeemed itself, by the way - the Realtime 4WD system is quite nice, pulled itself through 8 inches of heavy snow many many times. There's no need for it in Texas, but up in Minnesota (where we're moving because I got a job consulting for IBM) - makes a world of difference.
