17" Summer wheels and tires

Got them installed yesterday. I'm not 100% sure how I like them yet. The car needs to be washed very badly, plus the rusty edges of the brake rotors stand out like a sore thumb now.

I was also wrong about the color. Going by the pictures, I thought they had polished spokes and lip with the rest black, but they're the same finish all around. They have the look of polished pewter as opposed to polished aluminum. Definitely more racy but not nearly as classy as the chrome ten spokes. I'll try to get some pics up after I wash the poor thing next weekend. The car is definitely showing its age.

Ugh, the weekend I said I'd take some pics was nasty. This previous weekend, I drove downstate and now the car has bugs and bird poop all over it. That, and I can't find my camera. Or maybe I'm just lazy. :(

So after all that, I have to say I hate the new rims. The just don't do the car justice.
In the mean time, I've come into some cash and I've pretty much decided to go with the Cobra hubs/brakes. That means my new winter rims/tires will be useless too (WHY didn't I go with 17's for those? UGH).

Anyway, I'm looking at the classic Ford Racing Cobra R rims here:

The web page doesn't state, but I emailed them and they're 17X9 with 24mm offset. Will they work?

Damn. I suppose that means I can't reuse my 17" tires either, since I'm guessing the later models used 18 or bigger.

Depends upon the wheels and brakes, some 17s will clear the front Cobra brakes. Again, the offset is important.

The offset is good.

You need to get in touch with Jeremi, the wheel guru. ;)
Yep, we've been in touch. I think we're gonna make a whole project out of the car. I have some new cash burning a hole in my pocket since I originally posted, and I've got lots of things I've always wanted to do. Cobra brakes, exhaust, 3.55 posi, drive shaft, chip, suspension rebuild, etc.... oh yeah and new paint job.

Awesome! Good luck Mark.
So are you getting a Kia to drive while you work on the VIII?
