18in Tire size question

Will they fit?

I'm looking to upgrade to 18 X 9 inch rims and while I've read 245 45 R18 is the recommended tire size, will a 255 45 R18 tire fit on our cars? Is it that much of a difference, will it rub, etc? Anyone running that size?

Thanks

EDIT: Not much of a difference according to this tire size calc:

Running 245 tire on a 9" wheel is retarded. People (sellers) only tell you this as that's the only size tire that will fit without any potential rubbing on a 36mm offset 9" wheels.

245 tire offers no protection of the lip nor does it look to be the correct size ... it's simply overstretched.

My suggestion would be to roll the quarter panels and run 275 40 in the back, and 255 45 in the front or 245 if you have to ;)

I have 275/40/17's on the front of my 95 also and they fit just fine, no mods, and only VERY slight rubbing on full lock turns. I did need a fender roll out back but that is simple to do.

I was hoping to avoid rolling the fender. So 255 45 all around is good? I'd still like to be able to rotate the tires.

I run 255/45/18s on the front and back with a 1.5" drop on the car. I'm using 8.5" wheels. Those 255s are Nittos too, which run a little wider than most.
I've only heard it rub once..and that was a hard right turn at a pretty good speed... lot's of body roll.

Sorry to sound stupid, but I've been toying with the idea of wider tires on mine, too. What exactly is meant by "rolling the fenders" and how do you go about doing it (or is it something a body shop would have to do)? I mean, I've got a good idea, but just in case... :)

a less expensive way is to find an old wood baseball bat. put tire on you intend to use, (jacck car body to install tire) place large end of bat in wheel opening at 45 dergree angle SLOWLY lower body untill bat contacs lip let weight bend lip 1/8 inch roll bat all around opening. it will take 4-5 1/8 at a time shots to roll the lip most of the time the paint woun't get damaged. the eastwood tool works faster. unfortunatly I never had access to a rental and body shops make their living doing these types of jobs, so I never asked to rent theirs
