1984 Lincoln Mark VII Turbo Diesel

For those that don't know the story, I'm a Mark VII collector that has had this car for over a year and am now replacing the head gasket.
Well, I gotta start somewhere. I went to remove the fan clutch and instantly needed a specialty tool.

Woo Hoo! I have the tools! Thanks Dereck ... you're the best! I'm finding what appears to be brass screws(?) If so, that 's great for expansion and contraction and heat but is gonna be brutal on snapped bolts. It's cool, I only snapped one today (a radiator hose clip). The radiator is out of the way so it was pretty straight forward. I have standard and metric sockets but a metric open end set would help here. I removed the air intake filter housing and the belts and hoses and vacuum lines and a couple of electrical connections. I finally came to the timing belt cover and the twenty two year old gasket grumbled in my hands. The thermostat looked good but will definitely be replaced. It too had a twenty two year old gasket on it :)

You're lying...no diesel came in a lincoln. Give me the car I want proof.::wtf:: Ok so which years did it come in and what was the power output of it. Did it have the same trans bolt pattern and motor mounts as the 5.0 cars? I want one now. I'm pictureing some biodiesel and a bigger turbo and injectors, and some propane ..... What kinda fuel mileage did they get?

That's crazy I've never heard of such.

75 degrees and no rain.
I got to soak the exhaist manifold bolts and the waste gate bolts. The latter may need a persuader.

Sprayed WD-40 on the exhaust manifold lower bolts. These backed out easily with a 12mm socket, a universal and an 18" extension.

I got 11 nuts/bolts free. The last nut is the top third from the rear to the front. One way to get to this is with a 12mm open/box end wrench. Of course I didn't have one. The other is to drill a hole in the strut tower adjacent the nut and go in with a socket from there. I'm borrowing a combo wrench and will work on this some more tomorrow.

During a scheduled Car Day (whoo hoo!) I had time to open the hood and look at the engine bay again. 30 minutes later, the upper intake manifold was removed. Though only 12 nuts hold the one pound aluminum intake manifold to the head, there were several cables and hoses and even the fuel injector connections that had to be moved out of the way. One of the black electrical connectors was found broken along with a sensor up under the intake. I really need to find more time to work on this car as it's fun and under a great shade tree :)

Also, thanks to Steve and Nick and Tim and Adam for providing me with just enough distractions to make my morning enjoyable :)

I'm not sure actually. I know that it's a part of the BMW engine.
