2 related? problems.
The truck shakes when I accelerate. From a stop, if I floor the gas it shakes the truck but it also does it if I lightly press the gas. If I go about midway on the gas it will act like it wants to die. If I let off the gas or drop it into neutral it stops. It also seems to stop shaking (mostly) once I reach cruising speed, whatever it happens to be. Only when I accelerate does it shake.
Problem #2: The truck also whines when I'm accelerating or maintaining speed. If I let off the gas or put the trans in neutral it stops whining.
Truck seems to run good idle while out of gear or in park. Revs nicely when out of gear or in park.
Here's what I've done so far to try and relieve these issues:
Changed oil, filter (added lucas)
Changed tranny fluid and filter (added lucas)
Previous owner claimed new plugs and wires, cap, rotor and pickup but I don't know, plus he put on some cheap wires so I'm replacing the plugs and wires again.
Looks like the EGR valve wasn't hooked up to the water temp vacuum switch so I hooked it to a constant manifold vacuum source. - I can't remember if it gets vacuum to open it or close the valve. Either way, didn't seem to make a difference.
Most of the emissions is bypassed. The air pump is disconnected as well.
The exhaust isn't fully connected. It's rusted off after the cat and before the muffler. Sounds great but maybe the cat is clogged?
Ran some sea foam through the engine, no improvement.
Ran some ATF through the carb and it seems to have helped the lack of power issue slightly.
The choke seems to be functioning as expected.
Changed front diff fluid (added lucas)
Haven't checked: u-joints, compression, timing
I wouldn't normally post a MOPAR question on a Lincoln board but I have more respect for you guys than I do for some other boards and thought you might have some ideas for me.
