I found am seriously looking at a 97 loaded all the toys with roof cd heated seats etc.. 76000, $8,600.

Now here is twhat i've found.
I open the drivers door, started it closed the door and go throught the gears, the air ride seams to be ok. I get out pop the hood looks ok can't hear any bad noises ac clutch is cycling as expected. Moter has been detail so hard see if theier are any leaks. Go back to get in the dirvers door and click no go the door handle broke. Common I know but I just can't imaginge it working once then not...

Ok Heated seats sitting in the yard runnning with the car in drive how long should it take for the seat heaters to kick in? Our Tahoe is very quick but I sat for about 2 minutes and didn't feel and heat?

It appears the the drvers side headlight was replaced due to a small accident, you can see where the housing got pushed back into the core support and the half assed fixed it so I will need a new housing the HID is good and it all works but it's duck taped,(the clear plastic piece over the HID bulb) into the housing.

And it has the lacey spoke rims like my 93? I didn't know they were avaible on a 97 . It was built in feb of 97

How do I test the blend door?
What doo I need to look for in the tail lights to make shure they are function correctly?

Any thing else?

Thanks in Advance

I'm not a lowly 2nd Gen owner, 1st Gen's rule (ducks) but maybe I can help.

Just be glad it broke before you bought it

Wish my 96 had headted seats but they weren't available till 97. They needed something to attract buyers to the car.

Well, I don't have HIDs either. You still have at least one good HID so you can still see better than us 1st Gens.

Yes, the lacey spokes were available through 98 if I'm not mistaken. I know they were available for the 97's for sure. We'll I'm about 95% sure. I don't have my brochure for the 97 here, its about 30 miles away. But if you are really interested in this I will go get it.

To test the blend door just go from all out heat, to really cold A/C and then back to heat again. If it works, then the blend door is still allringt.
For the tail light you'll want to make sure the whole thing lights up. Have someone push on the brake pedal also and makes sure the whole thing illuminates when the brakes are on also.
Any thing else?

Thanks in Advance
We used to have a FAQ board. I'm sure its around here somewhere. Just have to find it.

RE: 1997 Black LSC ?

Sorry for that all comeing out in the quotes. Didn't meen for it to but thats the way it ended up.

I understand. You need that beater of a car to drive :p

RE: 1997 Black LSC ?

A 1997 LSC with Lacy spoke wheels would make me wonder. These are normally found on base model cars.

RE: 1997 Black LSC ?

The door handle will just break like that, it is common problem.

Could be a problem with the seats.

The housing can be replaced with bulbs for a bit over $200

The Lacey spokes were not available on the LSC, the Chrome Directionals were standard and you can upgrade to the Octastars at no charge. If they are the Lacy and it is an LSC then they were swapped out.

To test the blend door just make sure hot air comes out when the heat is on and cold when the AC is on.

For the neon light just make sure there is no moisture in it and that it likes up like any other brake light when you hit the brakes and is lite with the lights on.

Check for the transmission shudder.
Leaking air suspension.
Warped rotors

RE: 1997 Black LSC ?

The heated seats in Marks do not heat up as fast as your Tahoe. You should be able to feel heat within 2-3 minutes though. 5 minutes they should be on full. Sooner if your butt naked.

Here is my list of things to check.
1.Driveline vibration over 70-80mph that gets worse with speed. 93-98
2.HID headlights - make sure low beams burn nice and blue not orangy/yellow. New bulbs = $150 ea 96LSC W/HID and all 97/98
3.Climate control operation - cooling and heating - (blend door actuator problem) $35 part but a PITA to replace. Big bucks if you pay a dealer to do it. 97/98
4. Transmission 1-2 shift (was the accumulator upgrade and conversion to Mercon V done... 97 and older) Not a big deal under 50k but
plan on doing it. About $60 in parts plus 12Qt of Mercon V ($38 or so)
5. Driver door electrochromatic mirror not yellow or weird looking. $300 for a new one. 93-96 if equipped and all 97/98
6. Does the car stay up with the air ride switch off for a couple days? The message center "Air Ride OK" message doesn't mean everything
is perfect. If the bags are leaking it'll still say OK until it gets so bad the compressor can't pump them up in 90 seconds or won't vent
properly.
7. Trunk CD changer if so equipped - Does it work?
8. 10 spoke chrome directional (std on LSC) wheel corrosion in center hub? By the time you see it from the outside its way too late. Pull
wheels to inspect. These wheels are difficult to find used and are expensive.
9. All turn signals, 4 ways and lights work (multifunction switch)esp on earlier 1st gens
10. Clearcoat hazing on roof. If there is a small spot, it will get bigger. 93-97 Haven't seen any 98s yet like this.
11. Brake pedal pulse from warped front rotors (relatively cheap to repair) 93-98
12. Power tilt/telescopic steering wheel moves in all directions. 97/98 only.
13. Are both PATS keys available, 97/98 only. Extra keys are expensive and becoming a little hard to find.
14. Check operation of neon tail lamp 97/98. $600 for replacement.
15. Check cupholder for broken swing-out tabs. Expensive to buy new. Only sold with console. 97/98

RE: 1997 Black LSC ?

When I bought my 97 LSC it had lacy spokes on it. Me being an uneducated buyer didnt know that it was supposed to come with chrome turbine 10 spokes ones. Guess the dealer had swapper wheels with a base Mark.

RE: 1997 Black LSC ?

Sounds like too much $$$ for a questionable car... just my $.02

RE: 1997 Black LSC ?

Thanks for all the info... I drove the car for quite some time this weekend and it did fine but I just have too many ? about why things are the way they are for the $$.
SO I am going to pass and wait for a better one, or maybe one of the new T-birds when they are at a more realistic price.

RE: 1997 Black LSC ?

I personally don't like the new T-Birds, but leftover 2002 models still on the lots are going for about $33K out here near San Fransicso...

RE: 1997 Black LSC ?

My Wife is not crazy about them either and want's me to wait for the NEW Version of the Mustang. I Like the new retro look for the Mustang and it I'm sure the perfomance parts are going to be cheaper and easier to come by, plus I should corner better right out of the box and be about the same money as a 1-2 yr old T-bird.

Oh well just have to see what the summer brings...
