"1998 Mark VIII" "Please Help"

My 98' starts fine and will stay running as long as I keep the rpms above
5000,the dash lights don't flicker or get dim at all and neither do the HID headlights, but as soon as I let her go to regular idle she dies immedeately, and again no dash dimming or headlight dimming even after dying, A friend looked at it,and he thinks it's the serpentine belt,It's the original and looks worn out and is not as taunt and tight as it should be,could it be at low idle,it starts slipping?????Would that cause it to die???I always
thought once a car started the serpentine didn't matter???Thank you for any
help you could give me,I'd really appreciate it.Oh yeah this is the first time in cold weather,I moved from Florida to Kentucky.
Thanks Again,
Dino

The belt is cheap and easy to replace.

Sounds like it could be the IACV(Idle Air Control Valve) going bad.

If you need a belt get a gatorback... it is pretty expensive but nice and doesn't squeal. Besides that JP already pointed to the IAC which sounds like it may the issue.

On my jeep this issue was caused by a faulty cam sensor i'd go there next.

Hey thanks again on the info, sounds like thats the concensus,I've always been able to find the right answers here, like fixing my neon, with a kit from glitch,is he still around??
Hey man thanks again, any place you recommend for parts on the internet??

Glitch is still around, I just installed a "glitch ballast" on my 98.. worked like a champ and the install was very straightforward.

As for getting parts from the internet.. Most everyone around here and the other mark 8 boards use Max @ fivestarford.com for their ford parts needs.

He always beats local dealership pricing and is always a great help when trying to find those hard to find parts the local dealership is too lazy to find for you.

recently I needed both alternator bolts..
I checked everywhere locally...all the dealerships said they didn't have them
{because they were a low priced item, no profit for the salesman)
I called Max, he told me which local dealership DID have them and I got them locally.

This shows that max is more concerned with "you getting what you need" rather than "just worrying about making a sale".

Lol, I don't think I've ever seen someones "location" positioned halfway across the top of their banner. :D

We should start a thread of how much we've saved all of our M8 buddies! Its gotta be in the hundreds of thousands!
