i have a 2000 LS V8 that will not start. i know it has something to do with the anti-theft system.
the dash led flashes rapidly for about 60 seconds then pauses and flashes once pauses then 6 times.
i know this is some trouble code but i need to know which one so i can track down the error.
also the dash shows engin sensor data error
can anyone please help.
i have had this car in the shop more than i have driven it.
computer replaced the last time this happened at a cost of $2900.00

LS owners club wants you to pay first, though.

I know superchips custom tuning can disable the PATS system on the mark 8, i don't know if that would do the trick or not. And i don't know if they can work on an LS either.

I don't know about the LS's, i did some work on one once and it seemed like a nice car. Until it developed a rod knock at less than 120k miles. Too small for me, but it would be good if it were a 2 door. They should have just used the 4.6 in those things.

Your PCM is not coming to life when the key is turned on.

Most of the PATS recognition software is in the PCM. If PATS can't see this it flashes the light (in this case).

Most of the instrument cluster/message center data comes from the PCM. If they can't get that data, the message center will
say "Engine Sensor Data Error".

Add a third piece of information for me: does the "Check Engine" light prove out when the key is turned to run? If not, that usually also indicates the PCM isn't waking up.

Now, before we condemn the PCM itself (although it's possible), chances are pretty good it's not getting power.

Check fuse F207 (5A) in the Right kickpanel fuse box. It should be powered at all times.

Check fuse F204 (5A) in the same fusebox. It will be powered in run.

Check fuse F118 (40A) in the underhood fusebox. It should be powered at all times.

The PCM power relay is also in the underhood box. Check your owner's manual for location and make sure you can feel or hear it clicking when you cycle the key on and off.

Even if all of this stuff is OK, you still may not need a PCM. Early to mid-production 2000 LSs had terrible, terrible harness and connector corrosion problems, particularily in the wiring running inside and under both front fenders.

Yes, that includes the wiring going to the three PCM connectors. All three of them are down low on the right side of the firewall, below the pollen filter housing.

Good luck! I hope it's just fuses.

OK, that means the instrument cluster and PCM are capable of sharing network grounds.

If you had access to an OBDII scan tool that could perform code retrieval from all modules and do module to module network tests, you'd know for sure what's going on. The PATS/PCM interface on the LS is quite complex; there's a whole lot more to diagnosing it than counting flashes.

Still, that being said, I've seen an awful lot of PATS equipped vehicles immobilized simply by bad fuses and relays.
