i had a crx i could enter but im in iraq and home is in NC till i move to PA again. But that race is over in Cali, ::grrr:: looks like fun

RE: 24hrs of Lemons

Some guys on another board are thinking about entering. The entry fee is $500 per car plus $100 per driver, but it includes a weekend of eating, drinking, racing, and partying. Seems kinda high given the maximum $500 value of the racecar.

If it were closer i'd get a couple of friends to go in with me and put together a car for it.

Well, we did it this weekend.

They had a detroit event at flat rock speedway, just south of Detroit. The race ran the full 24 hours, 2 pm to 2 pm. Green flag waved at about 2:18, so it was really about 18 minutes short of 24 hours.

Our car was the "cavabeer". Cavalier covered in beer cans. It was actually quite competitive, until we broke a half shaft at about 3:30 am and didn't have a spare.

The race was quite the spectacle, and a lot of fun. I hope to do it again next year, and next year I plan to drive rather than just crew.

There was a lincoln in the race, a Mark VII. They had a guy from Hot Rod on their team, so it will probably end up in the magazine at some point.

I have a bunch of pictures to upload later, if I get around to it. For now, here's a "before" pic of our entry:

It was almost finished for that pic, we did finish covering the fenders in bere cans before the race.

Dave... WOW! Why didn;t hyou say anything here before? I'm sure a lot of us would have sent you weird "sponsorship" stickers and such. Post picks soon, this looks like so much fun.

finally, got a pic of one on it's roof. I missed the other two rollovers. All 3 rolled vehicles returned to complete more laps, if not the race.

BTW we were #22 Caintmakit! Racing on the timing / scoring screen.

some background...

I referred to the curse of the sticker. Caintmakit! Racing stickers are cursed. The current sticker run, the Fist Full of Neutrals, is featured here and is no exception. Maybe that's just because we put the sticker on so many beaters. Whenever the sticker is placed on a vehicle, something breaks. We had about 3 of them on our car. We did sabotage some other cars by graciously offering them stickers, however. It seems to have worked.

There sticker on the dashboard pic is the lincoln mark VII next to us. One of their team members works at Hot Rod, so there may be an article in there soon. Car and Driver brought 3 cars out, and managed to finish second with a mazda rx7. They may have another article shortly as well.

It was a blast. We're going back next year, and we'll be prepared better.

Between all the members of our team, we knew members of at least 3 other teams.
