3.73's, Tractionlock, and 93 driveshaft.

In title only.
Got my Mark back today, New gears, tractionlock and a one piece driveshaft. WOW! What an improvement! Strange the MPG seems to be better around 35mph (going into overdrive sooner?) On the Highway it has lost several MPG, But well worth it. It still has a bit of a vibration over 65. I don't feel it but I can see it in the rear view mirror.

I can't wait to get it up to Wed night drags at Searspoint!

It's been awhile since I purchased the parts, but Thanks KyleH.

I got the parts for around $150.00-$200.00 I think (It's been awhile.) The install cost $900.00.
I think i over paid, but I did not have the time to do the job myself. I'm not sure, but I think it sould be closer to $600.00. He also did an oil change (synthetic), Trans fluid change and topped off the other fluids, so I guess I'm OK with the price.

Wait what? 35mpg...? Ummm I was at 21-22 on the freeway with my 3.73s. I hope you get a chip too :)

NO! at 35 mph (added mph to the first post) it's better than before. 21-22 mpg that's about what I saw on the highway today also down from around 25 mpg. Chip is next on my list.

I got all my rear end work done for $500 with a 36 month warranty on the labor. That included rebuilding the trac-loc to 03 cobra spec. Let me know when you want to make it out to Sears Point. My 98 LSC will be ready to race hopefully next Wed if I can get the brakes done this weekend. Max, I don't know why your gen 2 was getting such poor gas mileage, im getting 24mpg going 65mph with 4.30's but that's cruising like a grand ma and on a straight road.

Yea, I figured he over charged me. I don't like the shop owner too much, but the Mechanic does good work. Hard to find that quality around here.

If you are going to be there next Wed 4/30 with your Mark let me know I'll be there!

Ya....but you didn't have a drive shaft installed, an oil change w/synthetic, and a trans service. I don't think 900 is all that bad, expecially if he can be trusted. Thats worth a lot right there.

Why did you rebuild your diff to "03 cobra specs"? A brand new trac-loc would have probably been just the same.

I got my used trac-loc for really cheap (basically free) and the 03 cobra rebuild kit with carbon clutches and heavy duty internals cost $100. You can't buy a new 28 spline trac-loc with 03 cobra internals, the new trac-locs come with the standard GT spec internals. Only the new 31 spline trac-loc's have the upgraded carbon clutches etc.

Thanks! I do know he is expensive, but his mechanic does good work.

Ahh....I didn't know they had "carbon" clutches. Definitally NEED those for your 14.5 second car! Hehe :p

14.6 before the gears/trac-loc. I went from a consistent 14.6 to a consistent 13.9 (best of 13.8) in my my old 95 LSC when I got the 4.30's. I got plans to get the 98 LSC into the mid to low 12's eventually.

Ideally you want to be at the end of 3rd gear when you cross the traps. Which gear would get you there? Probably 4.88-5.14 gear. So in my opinion 4.30's are a good compromise. =P

i dont drive much highway and if i do its only a 55mph zone if i can still get ateast 18-20 i would be happy

With my 4.10's I was getting 22-23MPG at 70MPH. 3.73's are NOT worth the money at all...you'll be very disappointed.

Changing the gear ratio that drastic would probably hurt you more. Yeah you're figuring it out to be at the top of 3rd, but you're going to have traction and acceleration differences that come into play. I don't think there are a lot of drag cars out there running that high of a gear ratio.
