Ok so Monday i decided to put the new rear diff into the Mark. I had a lot of help and wanted to post some pictures of the swap.
New Diff... Looks like new huh Jesse?
First i started by getting it in the air on jack stands, and took the wheels off.
Look, Jarrod showed up!!
Remove the brake caliper
We had to remove the axel nut to remove the bottom spindle nut becasue some Mark VIII's have them in backwards. Requires a 34mm Deep Socket
Here you can see how the factory had the bottom spindle bolt is backwards preventing the axel from sliding out. He is pointing to the wrong bolt, lol
This is how you should have it.
I didnt know this was a spectator sport, lol
Remove the Spindle
Remove the axels
Here we used a Jack with a 4x4 block to lower the rear diff. You have to unbolt the driveline and rear diff.
Old one out
New Diff getting ready to be installed
We lifted the new one into place by hand, made it easier to get it around the exhaust.
New Diff Bolted in
Hello!
One side put back together
Now both sides are re-installed
Put the tires back on, Pump the brakes a few times to build up pressure, and go for a test drive! Dont forget to take it easy on the new rear end for at least 500 miles. I still need to get the correct speedo gear installed, but i am very happy with the results so far.
I want to say thanks to Jarrod, Jesse, and my cousin Ray! Without your guys i dont think this would have happened! Jesse provided the knowledge of the swap, Jarrod helped with the entire swap, and my cousin ray took pictures, provided dirty jokes, and he also sat and watched making sure we didnt fudge up, lol.
