Ok so Monday i decided to put the new rear diff into the Mark. I had a lot of help and wanted to post some pictures of the swap.
New Diff... Looks like new huh Jesse? :)

First i started by getting it in the air on jack stands, and took the wheels off.

Look, Jarrod showed up!!

Remove the brake caliper

We had to remove the axel nut to remove the bottom spindle nut becasue some Mark VIII's have them in backwards. Requires a 34mm Deep Socket

Here you can see how the factory had the bottom spindle bolt is backwards preventing the axel from sliding out. He is pointing to the wrong bolt, lol

This is how you should have it.

I didnt know this was a spectator sport, lol

Remove the axels

Here we used a Jack with a 4x4 block to lower the rear diff. You have to unbolt the driveline and rear diff.

We lifted the new one into place by hand, made it easier to get it around the exhaust.

Put the tires back on, Pump the brakes a few times to build up pressure, and go for a test drive! Dont forget to take it easy on the new rear end for at least 500 miles. I still need to get the correct speedo gear installed, but i am very happy with the results so far.

I want to say thanks to Jarrod, Jesse, and my cousin Ray! Without your guys i dont think this would have happened! Jesse provided the knowledge of the swap, Jarrod helped with the entire swap, and my cousin ray took pictures, provided dirty jokes, and he also sat and watched making sure we didnt fudge up, lol.

Jerm, awesome pictures, good job detailing the stupid spindle bolts! I'm glad I could help and with the help of Jarrod, it looked like the sun was still up when you were done!

Props to Jarrod for going out of your way to help a fellow M8 lover. :) I'm gonna go on a limb and say that Jerm is giving you his old diff so you can build it and he can help you with the swap? ;)

Yea I just need to go pick it up and get it out of his hair still. Think I am going to have his cousin rebuild it with 3.73's.

LOL Jesse! Actually we talked about that after we finished. I am going to give Jarrod the diff from my car and the extra trac lock that i picked up, so that will save him a few bucks. My cousin offered to build it too when he is ready for a good price. I will be there to help you put it in too Jarrod! Oh, and yeah we still had daylight left :)

I have close to 100 miles on the rear end now and i love it! I haven't gotten the speedo gear yet but i will shortly. Today i was manually shifting it and accidentally broke the tires loose going from 1st to 2nd, lol. My cousin drove it last night and said he thinks i could have even gone with 4.30's the way it drives lol, but i am happy with the 4.10's. Cant wait to take WOT :D

Next time, you only need to remove ONE wheel. A lot less work unless you need to replace both half-shafts. ;)

Note on removing the lower pivot bolt.
If you use a cut off wheel in a die grinder and cut off part of the head of the head on the bolt on the inside so it has a ( D ) shape. Then it will slide past the half shaft. You only need to do one side of the car passanger side works best. With the bolt out you can pull spindle and axel out as an assembly. Then you can move the center section over and off the other axel with out removing either spindle nut.

Thank you both for the additional information :) I see how that saves a lot of time. I have already taken my spindle off on driver side to get my bearing pressed. Can't remember which way I put the bolt back in though....
